UCLA Center for IBD

UCLA Center for IBD Improve patients' chronic disease management through an innovative value based Home Care program.

The UCLA Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases brings a new approach to patient care for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. We are redefining value of care around three primary aspects of patients’ daily lives: disease control, quality of life, and productivity (at work or school). We have created a Value Quotient (VQ) which monitors these three aspects continuously. Our mission at the UCLA Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases is to raise patients’ annual Value Quotient (VQ) in a cost-effective manner. Our revolutionary Home Care program continuously captures information on patients’ Value Quotient (VQ) and generates a valuable decision support model for direct patient care. Patients who participate in the program benefit from instant feedback and on-demand eConsulting provided by nurse specialists. Request an appointment today to learn more about our exciting Home Care program by emailing us at ibdcenter@mednet.ucla.edu. The UCLA Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases will pioneer alternative treatment options including stem cell therapy for patients suffering from debilitating inflammation and disease. Our patients can also become involved with the latest clinical trial studies by contacting us at ibdcenter@mednet.ucla.edu. In order to increase the Value Quotient (VQ) of patients continually, the UCLA Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases emphasizes constant innovation and transformation to preventive health care. This is achieved by a highly advanced research infrastructure, which is built around the UCLA care delivery systems. Scientific progress will be translated directly back to individual patient care, resulting in better disease control and, in turn, improved Value Quotients (VQs). Improving our health system begins with fresh ideas and practical steps. The UCLA Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases has now begun this value-based program and invites you to participate! Please contact ibdcenter@mednet.ucla.edu today to discover more ways to get involved. Check out our website for more detailed information: http://uclaibd.com/

New from UCLA research, about familial and how microbes can predict risk.

Healthy family relatives can have a microbial imbalance that can represent predisease or susceptibility to inflammation.

Microbes may increase susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by producing bioactive metabolites that affect immune activity and epithelial function. We undertook a family based study to identify microbial and metabolic features of IBD that may represent a predisease risk state when found...

Stelara for IBD is now approved by the FDA

This week the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves use of ustekinumab (Stelara, Janssen) for the use in treatment of Crohn's disease patients who are moderate to severely active.

Stelara is used for patients who have previously failed or non-responsive to immunomodulator or corticosteroid therapy, but have not failed treatment with a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker. For the mechanism of action, Stelara is is the first biologic therapy that targets Interleukin-12/23 cytokines, and aims to disrupt those signaling cascades which lead to inflammatory and immune responses.

Please discuss treatment options with your GI physician for further questions.

Integrating (cognitive behavioral therapy) for insomnia.
This form of psychotherapy has been catching popularity this past week. CBT focuses on making yourself conscious about negative thoughts due to challenging life situations, and then allowing yourself to analyze the anxious emotions and to respond in a more positive, progressive and effective way.

Our center's team has been deep in development the past year to integrate CBT therapy for our patients.

We are in the final steps of finalizing this unique option within our "UCLAeIBD" app available in all apple and android app stores. Keep an eye out for the first release!

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, or C.B.T.-I., asks you to replace the negative thought that’s keeping you awake with a positive one.
