April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month & National Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month
Learn More: https://conta.cc/4dylbpv
Every child deserves to live in a safe and loving household; yet, for hundreds of thousands of children in the U.S., abuse and neglect are a tragic reality.

Abuse and neglect negatively impact every aspect and stage of a child’s life. Neglect, in particular, is a problem for children with autism, and studies suggest that children on the spectrum are up to three times as likely as their neurotypical peers to be targets of bullying and physical or sexual abuse.

Early diagnosis and intervention help a person receive services and support that can improve their quality of life and provide the opportunity to live fully. For those children and adolescents who do experience abuse and neglect, it is important to ensure access to trauma-informed services and healing.

One of the most important tools to eliminate the tragedy of child abuse and neglect is prevention. This requires that we support and uplift our communities, families, and individuals so that our children can be raised in safe, loving, and healthy environments.

The Center helps to keep children safe by offering programs and services to help build stronger support systems for families.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is March 31st
Learn More: https://conta.cc/3PhU5bN
International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), established in 2009, is observed annually to recognize the contributions of transgender people and to raise awareness about the discrimination they continue to face worldwide.

Many transgender individuals experience significant challenges, including hate‑motivated violence, social stigma, and barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare. Recent years have seen a rise in anti‑transgender legislation, which has further affected the mental health and well‑being of an already vulnerable population.

Transgender people make up roughly 1% of the U.S. population. An estimated 41% of transgender people have attempted su***de, and approximately one in five have experienced homelessness.

The Center's Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program offers free assistance to kids K-12 who have been bullied. All services are at no cost and include a 24/7 helpline (1-866-BE-A-HERO/1-866-232-4376).

If you or someone you know may be considering su***de, contact the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline by dialing 988 or calling 1-800-273-8255 or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.

Thank you, Grover Cleveland Charter High School for inviting us to participate in the job fair on March 26, 2026.
Engaging with your students was a meaningful opportunity to share insight into careers in social work, counseling, therapy, and mental health services.
Your students showed curiosity, compassion, and a genuine interest in helping others—qualities that are at the heart of our profession. It was inspiring to connect with the next generation of future social workers, counselors, and therapists who may one day make a profound difference in their communities.

National Women's History Month - Celebrities Who Share Their Stories
Learn More: https://conta.cc/4baGzOB
It seems celebrities have it all, but celebrity doesn’t protect from mental health problems. Many of today’s biggest stars are sharing candid information about their battles with mental illness.

Public figures who are willing to discuss their own struggles with mental health challenges can be effective in helping to break down stigma, spark essential dialogues, and inspire individuals to seek treatment.

Mental illness doesn’t care what you look like, what you do, how much money you make, or how happy you are before it hits you. Mental illness, just like physical illness, does not discriminate. Please know that you are not alone, and help is available.

✨ From Volunteer to Program Manager — A Story of Heart, Growth, and Impact ✨

Today we’re celebrating one of our own at San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. A journey that started with a simple desire to help has grown into a powerful career in mental health and community service.

Meet Yasuri Rivas — who began as a volunteer, showed up with passion, learned with humility, and never stopped advocating for others. Now, years later, she’s helping move lives forward every single day.

Her story is a reminder that:
• Purpose can start small
• Growth happens when you show up
• And every act of service creates a ripple

Here’s to the volunteers who become visionaries — and to the work that transforms us along the way. 💙

Celebrating Black Leaders in Behavioral Health
Learn More: https://conta.cc/4k64nan
As we celebrate Black History Month, the Center honors and recognizes the historical accomplishments made by Black pioneers in behavioral health.

From groundbreaking early research sparking debate on desegregation, to new techniques and therapies, we recognize Black counselors, researchers, therapists, doctors, social workers and advocates who elevated our understanding of mental health and made invaluable contributions to the field.

It is important to honor those who shaped the trajectory of mental health and all that was done to improve the well-being of society. We thank them deeply for all they have contributed. These pioneers worked to help others and leave lasting legacies for future generations. Their dedication allows us the opportunity to continue their critical work.

Happy Lunar New Year!
Learn More: https://conta.cc/4k6GkIx
Across the globe, around 2 billion people celebrate the Lunar New Year. This holiday is typically a time for family gatherings, festive meals, and joyous celebrations for family and health, honoring ancestors and deities, and includes gifting red envelopes containing money, and watching lion and dragon dances within close-knit communities.

As we celebrate Lunar New Year, it's important to take a moment to reflect on our mental health. For some, holidays are a time of stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Whether you are spending the holiday alone, dealing with family conflicts, or feeling overwhelmed by the demands of the season, it's important to prioritize your mental well-being.

Remind yourself that despite what your social media feed may be telling you, you aren’t the only one struggling through Lunar New Year. Be kind to yourself. This is your chance to create your own holiday traditions that are meaningful and enjoyable to you.
