Kheir Clinic stood alongside fellow clinics, community partners, and advocates today urging the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to place the Essential Services Restoration Act on the June 2, 2026 special election ballot. Introduced by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchelland Supervisor Hilda Solis, the measure would give voters the chance to approve a temporary 0.5 percent sales tax for five years to protect essential healthcare and social services across Los Angeles County.

Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo also delivered remarks in support. With 3.3 million Medi‑Cal patients in L.A. County depending on these services, nearly one in three residents, this measure is vital to keeping clinics and hospitals open and ensuring communities continue to receive the care they rely on. The proposal responds directly to 2.5 billion dollars in federal cuts under H.R.1.

During public comment at the Board meeting, Jina from Kheir’s Patient Resources Department underscored the urgency of this support, stating, “This County ballot will save lives. It preserves access to primary care, cancer screening, behavioral health services, medications, and patient navigation—services that allow disease to be detected early, when treatment is effective and far less costly.”

This month's Muffins with Moms event featured the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health presentation on "Understanding Depression and Building Resiliency". Presentations are in both English and Spanish.
We covered the following topics:
-Understanding Depression as a mental health condition
-Types of Depression
-Seeking Treatments
-Ways to promote resilience and wellbeing
-Introduced resources to attendees
