Dr. Dalia Artal, Medical Director of Chest Imaging and Lung Cancer Screening at RadNet West, joined KTLA 5 News to highlight the importance of early detection in lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Low dose CT screening can detect lung cancer early, before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective. Annual screening is recommended for adults ages 50 to 80 with a significant smoking history and is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare, based on guidance from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Yet only about 16 percent of eligible individuals are currently screened, according to the American Lung Association.
Talk with your physician to see if you qualify and learn more about RadNet’s Lung Cancer Screening Program on our website.
Heart disease has been the leading cause of death in the United States since 1921 with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) being the most common form. Yet when detected early, CAD can be effectively treated and managed for life, and in some patients even reversed.
Because plaque buildup often progresses silently, symptoms may not appear until the disease is advanced however even patients with mild CAD are at an increased risk for a heart attack. That’s why early detection plays such a critical role in improving outcomes.
In this video, Dr. Michael Coords, Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at RadNet West, shares his clinical journey and explains how advanced cardiac imaging can help identify disease earlier, and why collaboration across healthcare is essential to saving lives.
