At the UCLA Addictions lab we are interested in understanding the clinical neuroscience of drug and alcohol addiction. To do so we utilize a variety of laboratory techniques including experimental psychopathology, behavioral genetics, and pharmacology to better understand the causes and correlates of substance use disorders and to identify promising interventions for drug and alcohol dependence. More recently, we have begun using neuroimaging methods to complement our research program.
The UCLA Addictions Lab is located in Franz Hall and has a variety of studies underway, with monetary compensation, that may interest you. For more information, please call 310-206-6756.
1. Do you want to quit smoking?
The Addictions Research Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at UCLA is looking for individuals, age 21 to 65, who smoke ci******es and drink alcohol regularly to participate in a study investigating a combination of medications (varenicline and naltrexone) for smokers who drink regularly.
This study involves taking medication for 14 weeks in addition to 12 in-person visits over 7 months. During these visits, you will be asked to complete questionnaires about your health and drinking and smoking habits.
Participants will be compensated up to $405 for participation.
2. Is your drinking out of control?
Have you thought about cutting back or quitting drinking?
If so, you may be eligible to participate in a UCLA clinical trial of a new medication (Ibudilast) for alcohol problems. This 16-week trial consists of study medication, outpatient clinic visits and compensation.
Participants will be compensated up to $325 for participation
3. DDA Alcohol Study
Do you drink alcohol?
The Addictions Research Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at UCLA is looking for individuals age 21 to 50 who drink alcohol regularly (but are not interested in receiving treatment) to participate in a study investigating whether negative mood in withdrawal predicts treatment response.
Eligible participants will be asked to take study medication (ibudilast or placebo) for 14 days, attend 3 in-person study visits at UCLA which includes one brain imaging scan, and complete brief surveys about their current mood, behaviors, and experiences daily through an online survey.
Participants will be compensated up to $350 for participation.
