I am often asked, "When and why did you choose plastic and reconstructive surgery as a specialty?" I knew I wanted to be a surgeon since high school, but it was my senior year in college when I had that lightbulb moment. It was during my sculpture class at the University of Michigan,while I was socially isolating and sculpting this life-size clay anatomic figure when I knew I would pursue plastic and reconstructive surgery. In this moment, I became clear about my future path through art and medicine literally.
