In the Wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic that has affected the City of Los Angeles, students at home with no access to technology are ill-equipped. CAM Foundation granted 100 chromebooks for Brotherhood Crusade students to have access to education from the safety of their homes.
LOS ANGELES, CA, TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2020 - Brotherhood Crusade students who have no access to technology in their homes, will receive a generous donation of 100 chromebooks, so they will be able to homeschool in compliance with the "Safer at Home" mandate in the City of Los Angeles, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This generous donation was granted by Catrice Monson, founder of CAM Foundation, after a candid conversation with Brotherhood Crusade CEO & President, Charisse Bremond Weaver, who shared that the students would not have access to lesson plans electronically because many Brotherhood Crusade students do not have the proper technology in their homes to homeschool.
Bremond Weaver said, "This is an unprecedented time with our students having to remain home from school. While we have computer technology on site for our students, when they are confined to their homes, they are without access, which will hurt their advancement. We are so grateful that a simple phone conversation with a kind and generous donor has resulted in our students now being able to complete their lesson plans from the safety of their homes. This is the type of equity that Brotherhood Crusade stands for and it is the partnership with our donors who share this core value that makes a level playing field possible."
โCAM Foundation is proud to partner with Brotherhood Crusade to ensure that low-income youth have access to the technology necessary to continue their education, especially during this difficult time. Efforts to level the playing field and ensure high-risk youth have access to quality education are squarely within the mission of our organizationโ, said Catrice Monson, founder of CAM.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a global emergency that is unprecedented in modern history. The "Safer at Home" mandate issued by the City of Los Angeles was effective Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. and resulted in school closings and mandatory virtual learning via home schooling. The order will be in place through May 1, 2020 and is subject to extension.
