As an independent nonprofit public benefit corporation, the AMAAD (Arming Minorities Against Addiction & Disease) Institute is an advocate for community-based health and wellness services that support the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder and various physical and mental health co-factors that are exacerbated by alcohol and drug use. Our working model is that of a resource and referral organization dedicated to empowering individuals on a personalized case-by-case basis to access appropriate prevention, screening, and treatment alternatives. Our strengthens-based approach is informed by the belief that people in the entire community benefit when individuals within it have access to supportive services that help them to manage their lives in a manner that embraces their self-defined ethnic identification, sexual-orientation, and/or gender-expression.

Holding space today for every Trans life taken too soon, and for every Trans person still fighting to be seen, safe, and celebrated. Your light, your power, and your resilience matter. Today is a reminder of the work ahead and the resilience within our Trans community. We speak their names. We honor their stories. We stand with every Trans person demanding safety, dignity, and joy. πŸ’œ πŸ’œπŸ•ŠοΈ

β€œMy existence is not up for debate. I am worthy of joy, safety, and a future.” β€”

As we honor Transgender Awareness Week, we uplift the truth, brilliance, and resilience of our trans community, especially Black and Brown trans women who continue to lead, heal, and transform our movements.

Across the U.S., trans people, particularly Black trans women, face some of the highest rates of violence, discrimination, and barriers to safety. And while numbers shift each year, one reality remains: our community deserves to live without fear.

This week and every week, we recognize the strength of our trans siblings, hold space for their stories, and affirm that their lives are powerful, necessary, and worth protecting.

Recovery is more than an individual journey β€” it’s about community, compassion, and creating safe spaces where healing can thrive.

At AMAAD, we honor the resilience of those in recovery and the importance of recovery services that build stronger families and safer neighborhoods. Every step forward deserves celebration.

🌱 Together, we can reduce stigma, share resources, and uplift one another. Recovery happens here, in community.
