The Papanicolaou test, commonly known as Pap test or Pap smear, finds abnormal cells caused by HPV. If abnormal cells are found on your cervix, your doctor can monitor or treat them so they don’t turn into something more serious.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month!

Screening for cervical cancer should be done every 3 to 5 years (depending on the test used) between the ages of 25 and at least 65.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not s*xually active, if you don’t have s*x with men, if you’ve stopped having children, or if you’re in or past menopause—you still need screening because HPV can reappear decades after a first infection.

Visit your local Planned Parenthood health center to schedule your test.
