Beacon House The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a long-term substance abuse recovery center You can learn more at www.thebeaconhouse.org.

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a state-certified, residential substance abuse recovery program for men with a sincere desire to achieve long-lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol. As residents of the Beacon House, the men are provided with food, shelter, counseling, peer group support, educational opportunities and career training through social enterprise programs, including a Thrift Shop. This allows the men to develop the life, career and social skills they need to build a foundation in recovery, while preparing them for a strong reintegration into the job market and a bright future when they return to their family, home and community. Recently named one of the best addiction treatment centers in the United States by Newsweek Magazine, men from 39 states across the country have received treatment at Beacon House. The organization has grown over the past 50 years to encompass a full city block in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, including six residential facilities with the capacity to house 110 residents, as well as a kitchen/dining facility. With the support of our donors and the local community, we have helped thousands of men get a second chance at life and regain their place as responsible, productive members of society.

The men in our kitchen have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes recently. In addition to our partnership with Harbor Interfaith, where we provide daily meals to their temporary housing sites, our team has begun providing catering services to the general public.

We’ve been honored to provide catering for events in our local recovery community as well as partner with organizations like the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary, who have supported us from the start.

Our team continues to refine their craft one plate at a time, delivering professional-grade service across every event. From elevated private bistro dinners featuring scratch-made meals and baked goods, to picnic lunch bundles for outdoor gatherings, to full-service buffets and plated courses, we bring a high standard to every table.

And it’s not just about the food. This program gives our men professional training and vocational skills. Early mornings, tight timelines, teamwork, and attention to detail all reinforce the discipline and growth that sustain long-term sobriety. And most importantly, every catering event helps the "next man" who is still struggling and hasn’t even arrived at the Beacon House yet.

We are officially stepping into an exciting new chapter and making our services easier for you to access. Stay tuned for the official launch of our Beacon House Catering website. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking for you!

Addiction is miserable. Every day is the same thing, over and over again. That's why Leo is grateful that he doesn't have to live that way anymore.

In recovery, Leo found something addiction could never give him: purpose. He knows that by sharing his experience, he has the chance to help another alcoholic find a way out. What once felt like endless repetition has been replaced with meaningful connection.

Recovery has brought Leo out of isolation and allowed him to participate in life again.

Our men had a great time at the Dash Thru The 80s 5K, hosted by Impact Treatment Programs. There were neon outfits, headbands, and plenty of big hair. It was a fun and high-energy event from start to finish.

The run helped raise money to support Impact’s recovery work in the Pasadena area. There was a live band and even a costume contest judged by Megan Holiday (seen in last photo) from KROQ, which made the day even more exciting.

We’re always glad to support other recovery centers and our guys love to represent Beacon House in the greater recovery community.

At Beacon House, one of the first things our men learn is to ask for help. When a man is brought to the pit for the first time, he'll yell across the street, "New man needs a ride!" Right away, a few guys drop what they're doing, walk over, and make him feel welcome.

It may seem simple, but for an alcoholic, it’s a big deal. Most of our men have spent years trying to survive on their own terms, thinking they didn't need anyone. By asking for that ride, our new man is practicing willingness and humility—two cornerstones of recovery. When he can find the courage to say he can't do it alone, we know he's finally on the right path.

Did you know that our men receive free clothing throughout their entire stay in our program? This is only possible because of the generosity of our community.

Beacon House owns and operates two thrift stores that receive clothing donations every day. Most of these items are sorted and sold in our stores, generating revenue that helps support our program, but some of these items are set aside for the men to use.

Every weekday, tables are set up with shirts, sweaters, pants, hats and more. The men can look through the items and pick a few things they need. And when they no longer need an item, they're encouraged to bring it back so someone else can use it.

Your donations do more than fill closets. They restore confidence, meet practical needs, and enable our men to focus on their recovery.

Addiction has a way of unraveling a man’s life. Tim started with seemingly normal, but immature and selfish pursuits. Eventually, he prioritized drugs and alcohol over everything else, including college, jobs, and his relationships with family and friends. He found himself in rehabs, hospitals, jail, and eventually on the streets. But at Beacon House, he found a community of men who showed him that a different life was possible.

His growth really started when he learned to stop relying on his own flawed thinking and began living by spiritual principles instead. He shifted his focus from himself to helping others and began living productively and with purpose.

Today, Tim has nine years of sobriety. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2022, got married in January 2025, and welcomed his first son later that year. He now serves as Director of Operations at Beacon House and is on track to finish his MBA at USC soon.

Beacon House was honored to host California State Assemblymember Mike Gipson (not pictured) and his team for a recent tour of our campus.

Following his 2023 nomination of Beacon House as Nonprofit of the Year, he helped secure $1.25 million in funding to renovate the Bartlett Center. That investment transformed our kitchen and greatly expanded our capacity to serve our community.

Today, we provide three hot meals to seven local shelters, producing nearly 1,000 meals every day. This upgraded facility has also allowed us to launch a new catering initiative, supporting community events while generating resources that directly advance our mission of helping men recover from alcoholism and addiction.

This progress is possible because of leaders who understand the urgency of recovery services and are willing to champion for support. We are grateful for Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson's continued commitment to our community.

Beacon House Bistros are back! We kicked off 2026 with our first bistro of the year, and it was an incredible evening. Nearly 100 guests joined us, including men from our program, their families, community members, and long-time supporters.

These bistros are designed to give people a true Beacon House experience. Chef Brandon Dodge once again delivered a standout menu, the meal was served by men from our program, and two recent alumni shared their powerful stories of transformation.

Bistros remain one of our favorite ways to connect with our ever-growing Beacon House family. If you weren’t able to attend this one, we hope to see you at one soon.

For years, Ryan lived in a painful cycle of addiction. His ambition allowed him to build his life up, but because of his drug use and bad decisions, he would always wreck things eventually. After two years of homelessness, he finally reached a point where he was willing to ask for help.

At first, he tried to protect himself by acting like he wasn’t hurting. But eventually he was able to be honest about his emotions, and it allowed him to confront the parts of his life that had caused him so much trouble.

Ryan has grown in ways he never imagined possible. Today, he has an entirely new outlook on life. He’s been reunited with his daughter after years of absence, cleared his criminal record, and is currently going to school to become an EMT. But most importantly, Ryan has rebuilt his life on a strong foundation, with God at the center.

Ask any runner what they need most, and they’ll say a good pair of shoes.

At Beacon House, a dedicated group of men run twice a week with Strides in Recovery. Each of them has their own reason for showing up, but they’re all working toward a goal and improving each time they go out. We’re proud to support them as they challenge themselves to keep moving forward on the pavement and in their own recovery.

A huge thank you to Road Runner Sports in Torrance for helping our men find the right fit and for supporting them as they continue to build healthier, purpose-driven lives.
