Dr. Gordon Levin Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Gordon Levin Orthopaedic Surgeon I am a General Orthopaedic Surgeon/Sports Medicine Doctor who treats most problems concerning joints, bones and muscles. I enjoy all types of sports.

I have over 37 years experience in this field and have had a private practice in the Los Gatos/San Jose area since 1978. I cover such injuries such as acute fractures, sprains, strains and ligament tears that occur in sports or other accidents. My expertise in Arthroscopy lends itself to minimal invasive techniques for rotator cuff tears, meniscus injuries and tendon ruptures if surgery is indicated. Non-surgical treatments are also prescribed when appropriate. I am usually able to see patients at very short notice, sometimes the same day or next day. Levin1For those whose joints have already worn out, I have multiple regimens both surgical and non-surgical. If surgery is necessary, I perform total joint replacements of the hips, knees and shoulders. Those who have back pain, I treat conservatively, finding the cause of the discomfort. If surgery is needed, I refer to a neurosurgeon, though most cases are treated non-surgically. I take most insurance policies and accept Worker Compensation cases. I am a Qualified Medical Examiner and perform Independent Medical Exams for medical-legal concerns. In my office, the patient doesn’t see a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner, all diagnosis and treatment is performed by the Orthopaedic Surgeon. X-rays are taken in the office for quick diagnosis and follow-up. Levin3I grew up in the Washington, DC area and graduated from the University of Maryland with honors and honors in Zoology. I went to the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore. A rotating surgical internship was completed at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. I volunteered for the US Naval Flight Surgical Training in Pensacola, Florida and server in Viet Nam as a Flight Surgeon. I was awarded an Air Medal for combat missions flown as well as a Vietnamese Medal of Honor for medical treatment in the Vietnamese Villages. Following a tour of duty in VietNam and Japan, I underwent Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the Oakland Naval Hospital. The next two years were at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida before coming out to California to start a practice in 1978. I’ve been a runner for many years and currently run with a Glidecycle to reduce the stress on the hips and knees. Almost every morning I’m either running or riding my bike for exercise. I love to sail in the San Francisco Bay and in clearer waters, I enjoy scuba diving and if the snow is good, I’m skiing in the mountains and if there’s no snow, I enjoy hiking, backpacking and camping. My love is flying. I have my Commercial Pilots License and Airline Transport Pilots License and fly to Cabo San Lucas or north to Alaska to fish, sea kayak and camp. Levin2
I have been fortunate to have a wife of 36 years who also enjoys these sports with me. We have two grown children and a spoiled Golden Retriever. We’ve been residents of Los Gatos for 35 years.
