We are a residential treatment program for children (age 8-13) who struggle to manage their emotions. and The ChildTrauma Academy.

Sandhill Child Development Center, founded in 2004, provides a clinically sophisticated therapeutic program in a nurturing “homelike” environment. At the heart of this philosophy is helping children improve the ability to emotionally regulate. Our holistic approach addresses a child’s needs on all levels by integrating our treatment philosophy in every aspect of a child’s day. Sandhill Child Development Center emphasizes a relationally-based clinical approach that is grounded in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) developed by Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D. In 2011, Sandhill became the first residential treatment center in the nation to complete a multi-year certification process with The ChildTrauma Academy to become a certified NMT Partner Site.

Meet our beautiful Chiqui’s baby Junior, born last July, with his new friend and trainer Katy Frank.

Horses are extremely fun animals. They are playful and energized by nature so you can spend loads of energy with them which is so wonderful for our kids at Sandhill.

Did you know that Sandhill Center was named after the Sandhill Cranes that migrate by the thousands in New Mexico every year. They fly from the far northern areas of Alaska and Canada.

Sandhill Cranes are the most elegant beloved bird in New Mexico. Every fall into winter they find their home along the Rio Grand. Adults can grow up to 4-feet, travel up to 500 miles a day, and one of the oldest species in the world. These beautiful birds can be spotted in different open spaces in our area.

The Crane symbolizes beauty, harmony and grace. It represents positive change as it has been associated with the New Year in several cultures.

Look what Linda’s horse Chiqui gave her for her birthday. What a wonderful birthday surprise and that Linda was able to be there for the delivery is even more special. There will be naming contest so stayed tuned and watch this little foal grow and amaze us all ❤️
