The global pandemic has affected all of our lives in big and small ways. One unfortunate biproduct of the change in schools and learning environments has been a dramatic increase in vision related symptoms in children. Every day we are examining students from preschool to college age with complaints associated with computer vision syndrome and accommodative (or focus) insufficiency. Symptoms include headaches, fatigue, dryness, blurred vision, reading problems, and lack of attention. The human eye was not designed to be in constant near focus, and many children’s symptoms could be alleviated with a simple pair of glasses. Vision screenings are good, but a full comprehensive eye exam is necessary to diagnose most of these problems. We will be educating you during the next few posts about these common vision issues which have been exacerbated by the pandemic. Stay tuned for more details and know that you can call us any time if you suspect your child may need an eye exam.
