February is National Cancer Prevention Month and your heart health and cancer risk are more connected than you might think.

Here's what the research tells us:
🔴 Regular aerobic exercise reduces risk for several cancers AND heart disease
🔴 Excess body weight is a risk factor for both heart disease AND 13+ types of cancer
🔴 Alcohol consumption raises risk for both heart disease AND breast, liver, and colon cancer
🔴 Smoking damages your heart AND is the leading preventable cause of cancer death

This February, PCMH is encouraging our community to focus on the lifestyle factors that protect BOTH your heart and your long-term cancer risk:

✅ 150 minutes of moderate activity per week
✅ A diet high in fiber, vegetables, and lean protein
✅ Achieve and maintain a healthy weight
✅ Limit alcohol and eliminate to***co

And don’t forgot to stop by the hospital on Tuesday, February 24th from 7-9am for your Heart Health Screening! Check out our event page for all the details.

Our primary care team and providers are here to help you.

Today we celebrated Cindy Cunningham and wished her well on a new chapter… Retirement !

Cindy has been part of the Pike County Memorial Hospital family on and off for 45 years. She first joined us in 1981, stepped away for a short time in the 90s, and then came back to continue caring for our patients and supporting our team.

Over the years, Cindy wore many hats. You may have seen her as a PT aide, welcoming you at the reception desk, or helping out in the pharmacy for a time. No matter the role, she showed up with a smile and gave it 100%!

Thank you for the years you gave to PCMH and this community. We hope retirement brings you plenty of time to relax and enjoy your new adventures Congratulations and best wishes!

We have received reports of a company calling claiming to be PCMH and attempting to sell medical equipment. This is not us, even if the number looks like a local number or they claim to be with our physicians.

If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact the hospital or your primary care clinic.

It’s Phlebotomist Week, and we are so thankful for the team behind the scenes who keep things running smoothly every single day! For some patients, getting their blood drawn can be stressful, and our phlebotomists are the best at putting people at ease.

Our team not only draws blood, but they also collect specimens and make sure everything is handled accurately so providers have the information they need to care for our patients. It’s detailed work and they make sure it is done right.

Thank you for taking such good care of our patients! We appreciate you this week and every week throughout the year! 💙

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of longtime team member and friend, Lisa Pitzer. She was someone who meant so much to Pike County Memorial Hospital and to this entire community.

For many years, Lisa was a caring presence at PCMH. She dedicated so much of her life to serving others, and the impact she made here cannot be measured by titles or years alone. It is seen in the patients she comforted, the families she supported, and the friends she made along the way. She cared deeply about doing what was right for her patients and for this hospital. So many of us learned from her and trusted her. She was the kind of nurse and leader who led by example, not by words.

Beyond her work, Lisa was simply a wonderful person and a true friend. She built lasting relationships, and her kindness and spirit will not be forgotten. We are incredibly grateful for the years she gave to PCMH and for the countless lives she touched throughout her career.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and all who loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Our EVS team showed up in a big way with their Souper Bowl Food Drive Donation! 💙

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated, items were dropped off at the Louisiana Food Pantry Monday morning and will help local families right here in our community.

It is a great reminder that caring for our community goes far beyond the walls of the hospital. So proud of this team and the heart they bring to everything they do.

It's Cardiac Rehab Week, and we want to give a big shout-out to Jennifer Williams and the amazing work she does for our cardiac rehab patients!

Jennifer helps people rebuild strength, confidence, and healthy routines after a cardiac event. She takes the time to listen and meet patients where they are in their recovery.

Cardiac rehab is not easy work, and neither is starting over after a health scare. We can make that process feel more manageable and give you the support you need.

We’re grateful for the role she plays in helping our patients move forward and take care of their hearts. ❤️❤️
