Yesterday was Veterans Day and to thank our veterans for their service, we held a special ceremony were we updated and rededicated our Veterans Wall and then followed that with a special Beer, Brats, Stars, and Stripes Happy Hour.

The ceremony included music from Louisville Fire and Rescue Pipes and Drums Pipe Major Carolyn Cook, certificates of appreciation, thank you gift bags assembled by our residents and more. We recognized the 13 Veterans that call the Willows at Springhurst home and our 4 Veteran employees. We also recognized 7 Veterans who are no longer with us as their spouses and loved ones placed their names on the In Memoriam section of our Veterans Wall.

After the ceremony, our Veterans, their loved ones, and their fellow residents enjoyed some grilled bratwursts with all the fixings and some cold beers while they enjoyed some wonderful music by Zach Palma.

Thank you to all of our Veterans for your service! You are treasured and appreciated! 🇺🇸

Last night we held the first ever Willows at Springhurst Trick-R-Treat Party and it was a smashing success! There were giant Halloween characters, a friendly talking skeleton, dozens of kids in their Halloween best trick-r-treating with our residents, a costume contest, an employee pumpkin decorating contest, music, cookies, spooky yet tasty green punch, apple cider, tons of candy, and hundreds of smiles and laughs. We can’t wait to do it again next year! 🍬🍫🎃🧙‍♀️💀🦇🎵

It’s Captain’s Cruise Theme Week here at the Willows at Springhurst, and our Captains Dinner last night was a big hit!
Before things kicked off, our ship’s program director arranged for our residents to have a Musical Therapy session with Zach Palma followed by a special game of Bingo with the Captain himself! They also had the opportunity to craft souvenir life preserver ornaments.
As the main event for the night approached, the talented Rusty Vestor set the mood for dinner with some fantastic music as our residents enjoyed wine and cocktails. It was then that our ship’s Chef, Drew Hemmer, and his talented dining staff took everyone’s taste buds on a pleasure cruise. Dinner featured grilled filet mignon on a bed of asparagus and topped with shrimp skewers and a decadent lobster sauce and accompanied by loaded baked potatoes! Residents described their steaks as being grilled to perfection and so tender they didn’t need knives. Yum!
It was a cruise to remember! 🥩🛳️ 🌴🌊🦞🛟

It’s Captain’s Cruise Theme week here at the Willows at Springhurst and we’re celebrating all things nautical and fun! The halls are decorated in nautical chic and we’re having all the fun of a sea cruise without the sea sickness. Earlier this week we crafted rubber band boats and then held a rubber band boat regatta (Congratulations to Jeanette for taking home first place!) Residents also learned how to make Bahama Mama cocktails in our mixology class and then got to taste the refreshing fruits of their labor!

Up next is tonight’s Captain’s Diner, featuring “Surf and Turf” prepared by Chef Drew and his dedicated crew. We’ll then finish up the week with a Tropical Beach Getaway Happy Hour featuring coconut shrimp, more Bahama Mamas, and the Sass Trio! Stay tuned for more pics. 🛳️ 🌴🌊🦞🛟

Last week the Willows at Springhurst celebrated all things Oktoberfest! We made homemade pretzels during creative cooking and decorated German hats for arts and crafts. Our Paw Paws with Saws group assembled a cuckoo clock, a live German band played an evening concert, and our Friday Happy Hour featured pretzels, beer cheese, apple cider, and caramel apples. It was all wunderbar! 🥨🪗🎶🇩🇪

The Legacy Lane Life Just Keeps Getting Sweeter!
Our Legacy Lane staff, led by our Legacy Leader, Shay, has been doing a phenomenal job providing our memory care residents with love, support, purpose and joy every day. Their days are filled with daily rhythms and rituals, exercise, arts and crafts, fresh air, baking, and so much more. Now, in addition to all of that, we have added two fantastic weekly events to their routines! On Wednesdays residents now get to safely explore their surrounding neighborhoods with weekly outings. They may take a scenic drive or visit a local dessert spot (this week we visited Graeter’s for some delicious ice cream!) In addition to that, now every Thursday morning they have Musical Therapy with the incredible Zach Palma, board certified musical therapist. Zach keeps our residents smiling, engaged, and singing while helping them work on things like cognition and physical range of motion.
