Still reminiscing over getting to be a part of my first home birth as a doula this past weekend! What a beautiful experience. I feel so honored to share the space with a wonderful couple and their family.

Also, fangirling the whole time I got to finally work a birth with THE Amanda Chandler! She is so sweet and brings such a calming and strong presence.

PS: I normally DO NOT wear jeans to births, hahaha I left my home at 3am and unfortunately grabbed mom jeans. I ripped my pants at the birth and will NEVER make such a rookie mistake again. After the shear embarrassment, I can now laugh. Definitely won’t forget this birth! 😂💀👻

During the first few days and weeks, frequent stimulation of the breasts is essential to establish an abundant supply. If you find your milk supply is low, try some of the following recommendations to help.

- More breast stimulation: Try to get in "one more feeding" before you go to sleep, even if you have to wake the baby in some cases.

- Parent Self-Care: Eat nutritious meals; continue to take prenatal vitamins and increase fluid intake.

-Avoid things that are known to reduce milk supply: Avoiding things such as smoking, decongestants, antihistamines, severe weight loss diets, birth control pills and injections, mint, parsley, sage ( in excessive amounts).

- Use a manual or electric pump: Try "power pumping". Pump for 15 minutes every hour for a day; or try pumping 10 minutes, resting 10 minutes, pumping 10 minutes and soon, for an hour.

-Keep Records: Keep a daily log with the 24 hour pumping output totals - this amount is more important than the pumped amount at each session. This will help you see your progress over the days.

Another great tip is to keep in touch with your lactation specialist or healthcare provider to monitor your progress and modify your care as necessary.
