Thank you to our U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey, left, for visiting our facility Friday morning to learn more about the specialty care we and our colleagues at Kindred Hospital Louisville at Jewish Hospital provide to medically complex patients recovering from serious injury or illness. The Congressman received a tour from our Market CEO, Tim Phoenix, right, and they discussed public policy issues related to long-term acute care hospitals and supporting patients.

The caregivers at Kindred Hospital Brea (Calif.) are featured prominently in the award-winning documentary “Fight For Life,” about actor and MMA fighter Mariano Mendoza’s monthslong recovery from severe COVID-19 in 2022. “All the nurses there, the staff, the physical therapists, the speech therapists, the respiratory therapists are amazing,” Mariano’s wife, Dawn, says in the film. “… It’s really amazing how much they cared.”

Weeks after a ruptured appendix landed him in the ICU, Ronnie was transferred to Kindred Hospital for specialized acute care. There, he was weaned from the ventilator and made tremendous progress toward recovery. After over 100 days at Kindred, he walked out of the hospital, with his care team cheering him on.

Today, we proudly recognize National Nurse Practitioner Week – a time to honor the incredible Nurse Practitioners (NPs) at our facility and across the country who bring skill, compassion, and accessibility to healthcare every single day. NPs are the heartbeat of patient-centered care – listening, diagnosing, treating, and advocating with unmatched dedication. While this week shines a spotlight on their contributions, their impact is felt all year long in hospitals, clinics, and communities nationwide.

To all our NPs: thank you for making healthcare more human, more reachable, and more exceptional.
