A new month is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign. Think of it as a gentle reminder to care for your space, your body, and your mind.

Remember—reset doesn’t mean perfection. It means making intentional choices that help you feel grounded and whole.

What’s one small reset you’re committing to this October? 🍁

Postnatal Depletion... let's talk about it! Did you know about postnatal depletion? Well, if you are a mom or parent you have probably and/or are experiencing it!

Some ways to take the pressure off and reduce postnatal depletion include:

-Learn to say no: It's normal for people to be excited about meeting your new bundle of joy but you're allowed to take some time out before introducing your baby to everyone who asks. You don't need to feel guilty for setting boundaries around your time.

-Ask for what you need: If someone offers to hold the baby while you take a nap and you would really prefer them to throw a pile of washing on then simply ask. You might be surprised at how willing people are to help when they are asked.

-Organize a meal train: Ask one of your friends to coordinate a series of meals to be dropped off during your first few weeks back home with your newborn. Even one week of meals can take a significant load off.

Remember that looking after yourself will give you the best chance at beating postnatal depletion so that you can enjoy this precious time with your new baby.

Black Maternal Mental Health Week is sponsored by the Shades of Blue Project . This organization works to raise awareness, highlight disparities, share stories, build communities, and break down cultural barriers in Maternal Mental Health. Follow this great organization today to be in the know and support! It has always been “the time” to show up for black mothers and birthing individuals when it comes to mental health. As a licensed therapist who is certified in perinatal mental health in my practice I work to support, educate, and create more space for black mothers and birthing individuals. .

Don't assume, a simple conversation can go a long way. Check in on black moms and birthing individuals you know!

"2023 was a year of reckoning as COVID-19 disproportionately amplified mental health struggles for black moms and birthing individuals. It exposed existing racial disparities and inequalities in a system that continues to lack acknowledgement, respect, and support for their everyday lives. That's why this year is dedicated to promoting health equity for black mamas and birthing individuals across their birth experience so they can reclaim their joy and reinstate their peace of mind." -

"PROTECT YOUR ENERGY" Be mindful of when, how, and with what you give your energy too. Ask yourself if it is serving you? How are you restoring your energy? When you give your energy, do you receive something in return?

Your time and energy have worth, you have to assert that value and set necessary boundaries to protect your energy.

There can oftentimes be a misunderstanding or stigma about what therapy is or should be. The reality of it is "THERAPY IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT!"

Therapy can be very effective and beneficial. You have to be willing to put in the honest work, work on change in and out of sessions to grow. Advocate for yourself, provide feedback for your therapist. Let the therapist know how they can best assist you, challenge you, create space for you and support you on your Healing Journey!
