Good afternoon, colleagues,

Today marks a historic moment for the APA, as we move towards systemic change and action for eradicating racism and achieving health equity.

The organization has disseminated a press release apologizing for its longstanding contribution to systemic racism.

The press release also indicates that the Council of Representatives adopted two additional resolutions, one delineating APA’s and psychology’s role going forward in dismantling systemic racism in the United States and the other pledging to work to advance health equity in psychology.

I appreciate all the hard work of the committees, divisions, and SPTAs that has gone into shaping the resolutions that were passed by APA's Council.

I look forward to our continued collaboration to uplift and center the perspectives and voices of communities of color.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Chelsie Temmen to the ECPY faculty!

Dr. Temmen received her doctoral training in Developmental Psychology from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2018 and conducted her postdoctoral training in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Branch of the Division of Intramural Population Health Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Broadly, her research interests are focused on building more comprehensive and inclusive models to describe the impacts of parental involvement on child and adolescent adjustment. Specifically, her work emphasizes the importance of parental involvement on the development of child and adolescent adjustment (e.g., internalizing and externalizing symptoms, substance use), how mothers and fathers differentially impact this development, and how parental involvement differs in diverse environments and underrepresented populations. Outside the office, Dr. Temmen enjoy spending free time playing video games, crafting, and playing with her cat and two dogs.

Any students interested in Dr. Temmen's work – for general inquiries or to collaborate – can contact her directly at chelsie.temmen@louisville.edu.

Join us in welcoming new faculty, Dr. Konrad Bresin!

Dr. Konrad Bresin is an Assistant professor in the departments of Counseling and Human Development and Psychology and Brain Sciences. His program of research seeks to identify mechanisms that are involved in the initiation and continuance of behaviors that lead to short-term relief but have long-term negative consequences such as nonsuicidal self-injury, substance use, and aggression. Specifically, his work examines the roles of emotions, cognitions, and their interaction as antecedents to these behaviors and how engaging in these behaviors affect emotion. His work uses multiple methods including laboratory-based experiments, ambulatory assessment, and meta-analysis. The majority of his work has focused on understanding the role of negative emotion in dysregulated behaviors.
