Meet Helen Xin

Helen has been volunteering at FCC since August 2025 as a medical scribe, where she plays an important role in supporting physicians by accurately documenting patient encounters, medical histories, and clinical findings. She was drawn to FCC because of its mission to serve the uninsured, a cause she feels strongly about. She believes that access to healthcare should not be determined by background or financial status, and FCC’s commitment to providing compassionate care aligns closely with her own values. What Helen enjoys most about her time at FCC is the opportunity to learn something new every day. Each clinic session brings a different set of patients, conditions, and experiences, creating a dynamic environment where teaching moments are constant. Through observing providers and working alongside fellow volunteers, she continues to deepen her understanding of medicine while developing valuable clinical and communication skills. Just as meaningful to her is the sense of community at FCC, where she has built strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and patients alike.
Helen finds the work especially rewarding knowing that her contributions help patients leave the clinic feeling more informed, supported, and confident about their health. Being part of a team that makes a tangible difference in patients’ lives has reinforced her passion for service and healthcare. Outside of FCC, she enjoys spending time baking a variety of pastries, studying in coffee shops, and going on walks. These activities give her a chance to recharge, reflect, and maintain balance while continuing to pursue her interests inside and outside of the clinic.

Last Saturday, our board gathered with dedicated staff and volunteers for a meaningful conversation about strengthening our clinic and preparing for the future. The room was filled with thoughtful ideas, shared vision, and a deep commitment to the patients we serve.

Meet Haider!

Haider has been a volunteer scribe at FCC for about four months. He chose to volunteer at FCC as a way to give back to the community while gaining experience in his field of interest.
He deeply values FCC and the opportunities it provides. He enjoys the variety of people he meets, whether it's the doctors and practitioners he scribes for, the interpreters, the medical staff, or the patients. Each person brings a unique story and background, and there is always something to learn from everyone he encounters. Outside of FCC, Haider enjoys playing tennis, spending time with family and friends, and watching sports.

Meet Sarvenaz “Sarvy” Sheikh

Sarvenaz “Sarvy” Sheikh began working as a medical scribe in September 2025 with the goal of serving her community and contributing meaningfully to healthcare and health equity in Kentucky. Sarvy’s volunteer work at FCC has reinforced the importance of teamwork and collaboration in building a healthier community. Sarvy has been inspired by the leadership of the clinic’s providers, who volunteer their time to care for individuals who are uninsured, accessing healthcare for the first time, or otherwise face barriers to care. One physician she scribed for began an appointment by stating that the patient was also part of the care team, a moment that highlighted the importance of empowering patients to advocate for their own health. FCC exemplifies lifelong service, learning, and a commitment to improving health equity for Kentuckians and beyond. As a future medical student and aspiring physician, FCC is a place where they envision continuing to serve her community.
Outside of her clinical work, Sarvy enjoys long walks with their dog along the non-sandy riverside of the Ohio River and maintaining an active lifestyle through weightlifting, basketball, running, yoga, and dancing. In her free time, she enjoys watching Bob Ross videos and painting, always amused by how her own paintings never quite resemble his 20-minute masterpieces.
Sarvy is also a dedicated Seahawks fan.
