We are grateful for our volunteers, who give their time and compassion so generously.
We are grateful for our donors, whose support keeps our doors open.
And we are grateful for our community partners, who stand alongside us in our mission.

We gathered on November 12th to celebrate our Founder's Day Luncheon, and the day was nothing short of unforgettable. The room was filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and a few joyful tears as we reflected on our journey and the people who helped shape it. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal together, surrounded by great company and a shared sense of pride and gratitude.

A special moment of the day was our tribute to Mary Lee Fischer, one of our beloved co-founders. Her vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment helped lay the foundation for everything we continue to build today. Honoring her legacy reminded us how deeply her spirit of service, compassion, and leadership still guides our organization.

In addition to the celebration, we also held a food and paper drive, and the generosity of our members truly shone through. Thanks to their contributions, we were able to donate all collected items to Feed Louisville, helping to support their mission to serve those in need throughout our community.

The entire event was warm, uplifting, and full of connection—an occasion that highlighted our shared values and the legacy we continue to carry forward together.

Here are some photos that capture the spirit of that beautiful day!

Meet our 2025 MVP of the year, Dr. Hammer! Dr. Hammer has been an invaluable part of the Family Community Clinic (FCC) team, serving as a volunteer medical provider for both adults and children. His connection to FCC began several years before the pandemic, when he volunteered once or twice a month for four to five years. About 18 months ago, as he began to transition toward retirement, Dr. Hammer decided to return, this time increasing his commitment to volunteering once or twice each week. For him, volunteering at FCC offers the best of both worlds: the opportunity to continue practicing medicine while giving back to the community by caring for uninsured patients who might otherwise go without essential healthcare. Dr. Hammer says that his work at FCC keeps him grounded and reminds him of the heart of medicine—serving others with compassion and without barriers.
“It’s truly a privilege to be part of the best healthcare team in the city,” Dr. Hammer says. “Everyone at FCC shares the same mission—to deliver the best possible care without hesitation. It’s inspiring to work alongside such dedicated and enthusiastic people who genuinely care about our patients.”
His reliability, leadership, and generosity have not gone unnoticed. This year, FCC proudly named Dr. Hammer its MVP 2025 Volunteer of the Year, honoring his remarkable dedication and willingness to step up whenever help is needed. Over the past year, he filled most provider openings at the clinic, ensuring that patients receive consistent, high-quality care week after week. Outside of FCC, Dr. Hammer enjoys a rich and active life. He loves spending time on the golf course, challenging himself with crossword puzzles and other word games, and cherishing every moment with his grandchildren. In addition, he’s currently taking Spanish classes at the University of Louisville to better communicate with FCC’s Spanish-speaking patients—a testament to his ongoing commitment to learning and improving patient care. in the hearts of everyone who works alongside him.

Last month, we had a wonderful time partnering with the University of Louisville Medical School Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)!
First- and second-year medical students joined us for a group scribe training led by our veteran scribes and current medical students, Junaid Shahzad and Ranga Chennakesavula. Dr. Hammer was also present to share valuable insights from the provider’s perspective.
We had five enthusiastic students join us on a Friday afternoon, and the session was a great success!
We always enjoy collaborating with the medical school and appreciate opportunities for community engagement and hands-on learning.
