It's so wonderful when past clients call and ask me to come back again to speak. This week I was blessed to be invited to present the opening keynote for the Seniors Helping Seniors Franchise Conference in Nashville, TN. My topic was "Visioneering Home Care."

Thank you to Sarah Barker for capturing this video.

How do YOU find your Best-Fit clients?

Over the past four decades, I've worked with over 500 companies that provide in-home personal care for older adults, and who want to grow their business and get ready for the future. I've learned many things from these engagements, but there is one thing that stands out.

If you want to grow a successful business, find your "Best-fit Clients."

In Home Care, we've learned that Best-fit clients are those that bring in the highest number of hours per week of care, and the longest length of stay. They are clients and families where we have a wonderful, mutually beneficial relationship with a low "hassle-factor."

There are several ways to identify patterns in your Best-fit clients. One is to do a detailed statistical analysis where you look at your own business data to identify which families and referral partners are your best fit.

The other is a highly intuitive process using a yellow legal pad, a list of your clients, and your personal opinion of which clients are the best fit. List your client for a period of a year on a yellow tablet, with three columns - Best, Worst, Neutral. Run down the list and look at each client. Use your personal recollection, client records, and team member input to mark them best, worst, neutral. Then go down the sheet and look for patterns. What are the differences between your best clients and your worst clients.

As we have done this dozens of times recently with leaders of Home Care companies, we have found that best clients are:
* Great personal relationships
* Providing the opportunity to do our best work
* Most profitable
* Lowest Hassle Factor

On the other side of the ledger, the worst clients:
* Want to negotiate price
* Can be Very demanding
* Have a High Hassle Factor
* Are Slow to pay

When you find your Best-fit clients, and can spot your worst clients, then you can refine your sales and marketing process, and you can identify you high-potential Referral Partners. The result is that you spend most of your time working with Best-fit clients and you avoid your worst clients. Your business grows, your stress goes down, and your business is much more fun.

What is your experience with Best-fit and Worst-fit clients?

Do you have a process for differentiating between the two?

How is that working for you?

Home Care Industry Leader Spotlight: Stephen Tweed

From Martha's Hands Home Care

No person has had as much positive impact on the Home Care Industry as Stephen. He has offered, whether directly or indirectly, guidance, advice and counsel to almost all the franchises, major national/regional operators and small/mid-sized agencies.

While he can lean on his own personal & professional experiences in Home Care, Stephen remains a student of our industry. Whether it is conducting polling, researching or just talking with successful agency owners, Stephen has a comprehensive grasp of what is happening, what is working and why things don't work in Home Care.

As Founder of Leading Home Care, we first met Stephen at industry conferences, first the NPDA, and now the Home Care Association of America. We would connect with him during this time, eventually getting him to Missouri for our Private Duty Conference through the Missouri Alliance for Home Care.

Our relationship continued over the years. We are fortunate to have been a part of his first HOMECAREceo Forum Mastermind Group, the Top 5% Group, in 2012. We not only respect your advice but cherish your friendship!

If you are a Home Care Agency Owner/Leader, we strongly encourage you to join one of their Mastermind Groups. It will help you grow to the next level.

Stephen - the Home Care Industry thanks you! This includes others that are or have been a part of your Mastermind Groups in the past: Andy Tysinger, Krystal Wilkinson, Kyle Bossung, John Bennett, Richard Hargrove, Gabrielle Hoing, Andrea Cohen, Shelley Wilson, Jeffrey Wiberg, and Jake Fackrell.

What do Artificial Intelligence, Remote Patient Monitoring, Telehealth, Tablet Based Communication, and Virtual Reality Training have in common?

According to the 2025 Future of Home Care study conducted by Leading Home Care and Sponsored by AxisCare, these are the top five trends shaping the future of technology in Home Care.

Admittedly, the Home Care industry is a few years behind other industries in adapting new technology to the business. However, this survey of over 250 leaders of Home Care companies at the top of our industry showed that they are very much interested in the development of new technologies, and the application of those technologies to the business of caring for older adults at home.

Just over 54% of the respondents said that they see AI as very important or extremely important to the future of the Home Care industry. There are many ways leaders are using AI in Home Care, but the top three are:

1. Assisting in Marketing, writing and crafting messages for email marketing, blog posts, and SEO
2. Improving Caregiver and Client Scheduling, assisting with client/caregiver matching, filling unscheduled shifts, and analyzing data to monitor alarm triggers.
3. Fine tuning Caregiver Recruiting and Retention by writing improved job ads, improving the effectiveness of Social Media, and evaluating results.

How do you see AI and these other technologies affecting the future of your business?

How are you applying these technologies to grow your business and get ready for the future?
