Raw feeders… let’s talk about HPP for raw dog and cat food without starting a food fight 😅🍖

As a holistic veterinarian who LOVES the benefits of raw feeding for cats and dogs, I know HPP for raw dog and cat food gets people fired up. It’s one of the most controversial topics in the raw feeding world — and I totally get why!
Some pet parents feel that HPP “isn’t truly raw,” while others love that HPP for raw dog and cat food can make meals safer by reducing harmful pathogens like Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli. And that matters — not just for pets, but for the humans in the home too! 🏡✨
Here’s the cool part 👉 HPP doesn’t use heat, so the nutrients and raw texture stay intact. For families with young kids, elderly relatives, or anyone immunocompromised, HPP can be a helpful safety step while still keeping the benefits of raw feeding.
This playful (but important!) convo is from my Tails of Truth Podcast, where I’m breaking down what HPP for raw dog and cat food is, why it’s controversial, and how to decide if it’s the right fit for your home.

🐶As veterinarians, we’re trained as public health officers first. So when we know raw foods can carry salmonella… and that your dog might shed that salmonella right back into your home… the instinct is to say, “Please don’t do this.”

Not because they don’t love dogs.
Not because they think you’re wrong.
But because they’re trying to keep you and your family safe.

And here’s the part I want you to hear from me clearly:
💛 I am pro-raw for dogs.
💛 I feed it, I recommend it, and I believe in the benefits.

But I’m also deeply committed to helping you feed raw safely — without fear, without overwhelm, and without ignoring the risks.

If you’ve ever felt dismissed, shamed, or confused about raw feeding… this clip is just the beginning.

🎧 In the full episode, I break down the controversy with nuance, compassion, and zero judgment — so you can make informed choices that work for your dog and your family.

If only loving our animals hard enough could guarantee a long, problem-free life… right? 🐾✨

Here’s the truth I’ve learned after thousands of patients: not all cancer is preventable — even when we do everything “right.” And that can feel frustrating, especially if you’ve landed in holistic or integrative medicine because Western tools failed you (been there 🙋‍♀️).

But you’re not powerless. You’re informed. You’re intentional. You’re showing up.
And that matters more than perfection.

💛 In the full Tails of Truth podcast episode, I talk about why we can’t control every outcome — and why that can actually be freeing.

It’s wild to watch how closely pet food trends follow our human diet fads. We get into chicken broth… suddenly every dog is sipping bone broth. We go paleo… and boom — paleo pups everywhere. 😂

But here’s the thing: just because something works for us doesn’t mean it’s right for our dogs (or cats!). And yes, we even touched the spicy topic of vegan diets — and why our pets’ biological needs don’t always line up with our personal values.

If you’ve been curious about gently cooked diets, grain-free, vegan, broth-boosted bowls, or any of the other trends floating around TikTok and Insta… this reel is just the teaser.

“Vaccines last a lifetime.” Nope. I cannot stand this one. 😅 There’s so much nuance that gets lost when we make blanket statements like that — different vaccine technologies, different diseases, different immune responses… it’s not one-size-fits-all!
In this clip, I’m unpacking why oversimplifying vaccine science can actually do more harm than good (for pets and for trust in veterinary care).
✨ If you’ve ever wondered how long vaccines really last, or what’s behind the science of immunity, this episode of S**t Holistic Vets Say is for you.

Let’s talk kibble and cats — and why it’s not exactly their dream diet 😼🍽️

As a holistic veterinarian, I promise I’m not here to scare you — you’re not going to give your cat cancer by feeding kibble. Truly. Take a breath. 💛
BUT… kibble is also not the ideal long-term diet for our feline friends. Cats are obligate carnivores, which means their bodies are designed for high-protein, low-carbohydrate, high-moisture meals. Basically: meat, not cereal. 🥩➡️🚫🥣
Dry food is convenient (no judgment — I’ve fed it too!), but it doesn’t match what cats are built to eat. For most cats, canned food or commercially prepared balanced diets support better hydration, digestion, urinary health, and overall wellness.
This clip is from my Tails of Truth Podcast, where I break down what cats really need to thrive, why kibble isn’t the villain but also not the all-star, and simple upgrades you can make to support your cat’s long-term health.

😱 A client called after finding a dead bat in their house—and it tested positive for rabies.
This is every veterinarian’s worst-case scenario for an unvaccinated patient. 💔
Luckily, my patient was vaccinated, and that protection likely saved their life.
In this episode of my Tails of Truth Podcast, I share the full story, what happens when pets are exposed to rabies, and why prevention matters.
As a holistic veterinarian, I believe in blending compassion, science, and informed care—because vaccines are part of keeping our pets safe.

💉 Ever wonder why every dog—no matter their size—gets the same dose of the rabies vaccine? 🐾
In this episode of Tails of Truth Podcast, I break down the real reasons behind this controversial topic. From how vaccines are studied (mostly in Beagle colonies) to the ethical considerations of testing on every breed and size—there’s more to it than you might think.
As a holistic veterinarian, I always want you to understand what’s behind the medicine we use to keep our pets safe.

Let’s talk about the big debate — when is the right time to spay or neuter your dog?

As a holistic veterinarian, I get this question all the time — and honestly, it’s a complex topic. On one hand, shelter medicine focuses on preventing overpopulation (and saving lives 💕). On the other, we know that delaying spays and neuters until a dog’s growth plates close can support long-term health — protecting joints, hormones, and even reducing certain cancer risks.
That means what’s best for a population of dogs might not always be what’s best for an individual dog. 🐾 It’s a tough balance.

This clip is from my Tails of Truth Podcast, where we dive deep into the controversy around when to spay or neuter your dog — exploring the science, ethics, and how to make the best decision for your pup.

Let’s clear something up about ma*****na for dogs — it’s not the vibe your pup wants. 🌿🐾

As a holistic veterinarian, I get tons of questions about the possible benefits ma*****na for dogs. I get it — people assume it might help their pup chill out or ease pain. But here’s the thing: dogs have way more THC receptors than humans, which means even a little bit can make them really uncomfortable.

When dogs get into ma*****na, they can feel anxious, dizzy, disoriented — it’s not fun for them at all. It’s just not fair to get dogs high. 💚
There are so many safe, natural ways to help with pain, anxiety, or inflammation — but THC isn’t one of them. I love using h**p derived CBD. You can check out my favorite in my bio.
In this episode of the Tails of Truth Podcast, I’m chatting all about ma*****na for dogs, what actually happens when they ingest THC, and better holistic options to help your pets feel calm and comfortable.

😿 Your cat isn’t being spiteful — here’s what they’re really trying to tell you when they start p**ping outside the litter box.

If your cat is p**ping outside the litter box, you’re definitely not alone — and it’s not your cat being “bad.” As a holistic veterinarian (and total cat lover), I see this all the time, and there’s always a reason behind it. 💛
Sometimes, cats p**p outside of the litter box due to medical issues like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or arthritis, which can make the litter box uncomfortable or even painful to use. Other times, it’s about stress, litter texture, or box setup/location.
The good news? We can fix this together. 🐾 I offer online consultations to help you uncover why your cat is p**ping outside the litter box and create a customized, holistic plan to get them feeling better — body, mind, and litter box!
