Low Speed- impact refers to 1-2 mph and up to 20-25 mph.
Moderate speeds-25-40 mph.
High speeds- 40 mph and over.
85 percent of all neck injuries seen clinically result from automobile crashes, and of those due to such collisions, 90 percent result from rear-end impacts. Studies report that rear-end impacts of as little as 5 mph can give rise to significant symptoms.
The dynamic and vehicle factors that contribute to rear-end collision injury are:
vehicles involved, multiple cars involved
speed differential, braking,
vehicle weight, car, truck
location of impact, rear, front, t-boned
direction of impact
head restraint location
seat failure with poor frames
seat back angle, not sitting up properly
height of head rest to far up or down
The key is expert chiropractic documentation showing that the patient is receiving benefits from the treatment with pain relief and improving in functional capacity. Documentation must justify the treatment for the injury. It must show that treatment was actually rendered, and substantiate the injury by detailing the subjective(what the patient says) and objective findings(what the doctor finds) on the examination; justify treatment by showing decreases in pain and suffering; increasing recovery time, increasing range of motion, decreasing the likelihood of complications; increasing the function of the person during the recovery and giving them back normal activities of daily living.
With a proper treatment plan the experienced accident doctor can help minimize future pain, arthritis and disability that may show up in 5-10 years post accident.
This is why getting the proper treatment of the spine and extremities are of most importance.
A seven year follow-up after injury of patients without previous x-ray evidence of disc disease, found that near 40 percent had developed degenerative disc disease at one or more disc levels since injury. DJD can be a very debilitating and crippling condition.
