From Louisville to the Bahamas, the impact travels far. đź’™

Thanks to SOS, the Auburn Retired Veterinarians brought critical medical supplies to Abaco, where they partnered with the Abaco Shelter still recovering after Hurricane Dorian.

Working in an open-air space with no electricity, this dedicated team performed an incredible 40–50 surgeries a day, providing spay/neuter services and treating stray animals with long-standing injuries — while even building new cages for adoptable dogs.

What started as a small effort has grown into a biannual mission fueled by compassion, teamwork, and the power of repurposed medical supplies.

🚨New partnership alert!!🚨

We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana and Frazier Rehab to help with their increasing need for mobility equipment and accessibility items!

We recently donated 2 specialized shower chairs to the RMHC, Ronald McDonald House. These chairs are very expensive to purchase, so we are happy to save them critical funds while providing resources for families in need.

We want to thank Dr. Andrea Behrman, a professor in the University of Louisville’s Department of Neuro Surgery, UofL Health, UofL Health - Frazier Rehabilitation Institute and Director of the Kosair for Kids Center for Pediatric NeuroRecovery. She is a pioneer in pediatric spinal cord injury research, whose passion is uplifting.

đź’™ Our 8th annual Health & Hope Breakfast on Tuesday was truly inspiring.

🌎 Not only did we have a record-breaking number of guests, but last year, we were able to impact a record number of lives- 450,000!

đź’Ś A special thank you goes to all of our speakers who shared their stories of hope with us. They expressed first hand how SOS has impacted their lives, whether it was in supporting mobility challenges, providing supplies for students in medical education, or equipping a newly-built hospital in Africa with everything needed to treat patients.

We are so grateful to welcome volunteers from Rotary International/ Rotary Club of Louisville at SOS!

This group visits us quarterly with some of their newest members, giving them a hands-on look at service in action. During their recent visit, they sorted nutrition supplies — identifying feeding tubes and syringes needed to fulfill an upcoming order.

Thank you for helping ensure these critical medical supplies reach patients who need them most. đź’™

Students are back in the lab at Marion C. Moore School after last year’s fire — and SOS was proud to help replace equipment so future healthcare professionals can keep learning. 💙

We are proud to support Jefferson County Public Schools and allied health students across the state!

Six months after a fire caused severe smoke damage to Marion C. Moore High School’s Medical Arts building, students are back in their classrooms.

SOS is connecting future healthcare professionals with those already on the path.

Last week, students from ATA College partnered with Allied Health students from Doss High School for an on-site program simulating the nursing school experience. ATA students led hands-on skills stations, answered career questions, and shared what they’ve learned in clinicals.

Both groups also sorted medical supplies for SOS — combining education with impact through hands-on volunteering.

“It was great to help today,” one ATA student shared. “We were able to give back in an immediate way.”

Thank you to Greater Louisville Medical Society Foundation and the R. Karalakulasingam Family Foundation for their support which helps to innovative programming like this happen at SOS!

SOS Saves Lives Locally and Globally

SOS is a Global Health Organization based in Louisville, KY. We provide medical supplies and health resources to hospitals, clinics and social service organizations in impoverished communities locally and globally. SOS partners with over 100 U.S. hospitals and medical institutions to recover surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS saves over 500,000 pounds of supplies a year from going to landfills, which protects soil, water and air quality. The supplies are then redistributed to medically impoverished communities worldwide through SOS’s Global Health Program, and to local social service agencies, animal welfare organizations, and medical education institutions through SOS’s Local Health Program.

SOS has been nationally recognized for best practice and highest ethics and is one of only nine accredited medical surplus recovery organizations in the U.S. For more information call 502-736-6360 or visit: http://www.soshealthandhope.org.
