SOS In so doing, SOS succeeds in improving healthcare for the poor and underserved around the world, including in our own region.

SOS improves healthcare access for those in need locally and around the world by collecting surplus medical supplies from healthcare systems and using the items to save lives rather than going into landfills. SOS is a Louisville, KY based humanitarian aid organization that promotes global health, environmental stewardship, and community awareness through the efficient recovery and responsible distribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS is one of only 7 accredited medical surplus recovery organizations in the U.S.

SOS is grateful for the chance to support tomorrow’s healthcare heroes.💙

We often get to use our unique role in healthcare education to bring students—from high school to medical school—together for inspiring, hands-on learning experiences.

Yesterday, we welcomed nursing students from ATA College who mentored Allied Health students from Iroquois High School to create a real nursing school environment. Students worked side by side in skills labs, getting hands on experience with patient care and clinical techniques using donated medical supplies.

We’re grateful to play a small part in their journey — and thankful to everyone who helps make these educational experiences possible.

We are grateful for our volunteers... Thank you for being the heart of SOS.🙏

We love honoring the incredible volunteers who show up for us in so many ways — from small groups to large teams, first-time helpers to longtime friends.

Every hour you give, every box you sort, every pallet you pack directly improves health for patients and communities here and across the world.

You are the backbone of our mission. Your compassion, your consistency, and your willingness to roll up your sleeves is what makes this work possible. 💙

Starting off Thanksgiving with deep gratitude to our healthcare and hospital partners who generously donate surplus medical supplies and equipment to SOS. 💙

Our work begins with your trust in knowing we will get these vital resources to patients and communities who need them most, both here and around the world.

Your commitment not only saves lives, it demonstrates true corporate responsibility by keeping usable medical items out of landfills and giving them a second life where they can make the greatest difference.

Thank you for standing with us in creating a healthier, more equitable world. 🌍✨

Saturday’s Mini Med School was a huge success! ✨

WLKY News stopped by as JCPS high school students spent their Saturday exploring hands-on medical education using repurposed medical supplies donated by SOS.

Hosted by Project Heal at University of Louisville School of Medicine, the program gives students a real taste of medical careers and tips on following healthcare pathways.

SOS is proud to support opportunities that inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals in our community. 💙

Several JCPS high schoolers spent their Saturday back in the classroom at the University of Louisville's school of medicine.

A Thank You From Ethiopia 🇪🇹

This summer, SOS delivered a 40-foot container of medical equipment and 71,280 fortified meals from Love the Hungry to Butajira General Hospital, serving 100,000+ patients a year. These resources, valued at over $350,000, are helping improve care for malnutrition, typhoid, and more—bringing hope and a healthier future to the region.

A huge thank you to all donors, volunteers, and partners who made this life-changing delivery possible!

From Louisville ➡️ Zimbabwe - Supplies from SOS are saving lives and empowering healthcare professionals with the tools they need!🌎

Dr. Scott Armistead with INMED stopped by last week to pick up supplies for his next medical education trip, this time to Zimbabwe. Here he explains how valuable and scarce medical supplies are in rural communities.

It is our honor to support Dr. Scott and his mission to equip healthcare professionals and students to serve the forgotten. 💙

🐾SOS is proud to turn surplus into second chances for our feline friends!😻

Our newest partner, Hardin County Community Cats, is a volunteer-run nonprofit that rescues orphaned and abandoned cats and provides free neutering to help reduce the stray population in Radcliff, KY. In just the last year, they’ve:

✨ Neutered 800 cats
✨ Found homes for 300+ cats + kittens

Their first SOS order — over $2,800 in supplies + surgical equipment — will help stretch resources and elevate care.

“The supplies from SOS will go a long way in helping us improve the quality of life for so many cats — and humans,” says founder Vicki Cochran. 🧡

🥽 The right tools make all the difference.

Thanks to a donation of sterile gloves from SOS, students at Kentucky Community & Technical College System now have access to multiple glove sizes — helping them practice proper techniques more confidently and inclusively.

Many students only receive one glove size in their lab kits, which can make learning difficult. This support ensures every student can train comfortably and succeed without added cost.

We are proud to help empower the next generation of healthcare professionals right here in Kentucky!💙

💙 Every wheel repaired means more independence, connection, and hope.

This weekend, SOS hosted its 10th Free Wheelchair & Mobility Aid Repair Clinic at Goodwill West Louisville Opportunity Center, offering free repairs and cleaning to members of the disability community — ensuring everyone can keep moving forward with dignity.

These clinics have served 140+ neighbors, thanks to the incredible support of our volunteers and partners who make it all possible:
👉 Louisville Metro Government Office of Social Services
👉 Park Community Credit Union/ Park Community Foundation
👉 Epiphany Catholic Church
👉 Transit Authority of River City (TARC)

Together, we’re building mobility, community, and hope — one repair at a time. 💪

SOS Saves Lives Locally and Globally

SOS is a Global Health Organization based in Louisville, KY. We provide medical supplies and health resources to hospitals, clinics and social service organizations in impoverished communities locally and globally. SOS partners with over 100 U.S. hospitals and medical institutions to recover surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS saves over 500,000 pounds of supplies a year from going to landfills, which protects soil, water and air quality. The supplies are then redistributed to medically impoverished communities worldwide through SOS’s Global Health Program, and to local social service agencies, animal welfare organizations, and medical education institutions through SOS’s Local Health Program.

SOS has been nationally recognized for best practice and highest ethics and is one of only nine accredited medical surplus recovery organizations in the U.S. For more information call 502-736-6360 or visit: http://www.soshealthandhope.org.
