SOS In so doing, SOS succeeds in improving healthcare for the poor and underserved around the world, including in our own region.

SOS improves healthcare access for those in need locally and around the world by collecting surplus medical supplies from healthcare systems and using the items to save lives rather than going into landfills. 🌍 This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the power of impact—both for our planet and for people around the world.

Because of SOS, more than 5 million pounds of medical supplies and equipment have been diverted from landfills and put to lifesaving use where they’re needed most.

What could have been discarded is now helping save lives, strengthen healthcare systems, support medical education, and bring hope to communities across the globe.

This is what sustainability looks like in action. 💚

A 40-foot container of critical medical aid has arrived at a children’s hospital in Eastern Ukraine—our second shipment there in less than a year.

In a video shared by doctors on the ground, their gratitude says it all. 💙

Facing growing needs in a war-torn region, the hospital received essential equipment like a surgical microscope, OR table, anesthesia monitor, beds, and stretchers—along with thousands of pounds of vital supplies.

Nearly 10,000 pounds of aid, valued at over $276,000, is now supporting patient care.

This effort was made possible in collaboration with the Rotary of Scranton and St Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church - together, we are delivering care and hope where it’s needed most.

Over 2,700 future healthcare leaders gathered in Louisville for the 2026 HOSA State Leadership Conference—and SOS was proud to be part of it.

Students from across Kentucky put their skills to the test through clinical challenges, leadership sessions, and academic competitions, all working toward a chance to advance to the international conference this June.

Their passion and drive to serve others is exactly what the future of healthcare needs. We’re honored to support HOSA and help inspire the next generation of providers committed to stronger, healthier communities.

Cindy Goldstein and her husband Perry visited SOS for the first time in February to help pack medical supplies for a mission trip to Honduras.

For Cindy, it was her first medical mission—and one that made a lasting impact. Her team was able to perform 26 surgeries in La Paz using supplies from SOS, helping change lives.

Inspired by the experience, Cindy—recently retired from nursing—is now continuing her journey of service as a volunteer with SOS.

Thank you, Cindy, for turning compassion into action.💙

Students at TJ Middle School recently got hands-on experience at a healthcare skills clinic led by the Southern High School HOSA chapter. From learning how to properly put on PPE to checking vital signs and practicing patient care techniques, these students are already building the skills that save lives.

Opportunities like this spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire the next generation of caregivers—and we’re proud to support programs that make it possible!

💫 THANK YOU Greater Louisville Medical Society Foundation for all that you do!

📚 Because of GLMSF, we’re able to create excitement and build connections between today and tomorrow’s healthcare work force.

🌎 Last year, our Individuals in Crisis program served over 10,000 - from natural disaster victims in Kentucky and Jamaica to children in war-torn Ukraine to our nearest neighbors here at home who receive critical medical items that they can’t afford.

🩺 Our local wheelchair clinics are just one way that we address the mobility needs of our disability community when broken equipment impacts their safety and wellness.

From Louisville to the Bahamas, the impact travels far. 💙

Thanks to SOS, the Auburn Retired Veterinarians brought critical medical supplies to Abaco, where they partnered with the Abaco Shelter still recovering after Hurricane Dorian.

Working in an open-air space with no electricity, this dedicated team performed an incredible 40–50 surgeries a day, providing spay/neuter services and treating stray animals with long-standing injuries — while even building new cages for adoptable dogs.

What started as a small effort has grown into a biannual mission fueled by compassion, teamwork, and the power of repurposed medical supplies.

🚨New partnership alert!!🚨

We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana and Frazier Rehab to help with their increasing need for mobility equipment and accessibility items!

We recently donated 2 specialized shower chairs to the RMHC, Ronald McDonald House. These chairs are very expensive to purchase, so we are happy to save them critical funds while providing resources for families in need.

We want to thank Dr. Andrea Behrman, a professor in the University of Louisville’s Department of Neuro Surgery, UofL Health, UofL Health - Frazier Rehabilitation Institute and Director of the Kosair for Kids Center for Pediatric NeuroRecovery. She is a pioneer in pediatric spinal cord injury research, whose passion is uplifting.

SOS Saves Lives Locally and Globally

SOS is a Global Health Organization based in Louisville, KY. We provide medical supplies and health resources to hospitals, clinics and social service organizations in impoverished communities locally and globally. SOS partners with over 100 U.S. hospitals and medical institutions to recover surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS saves over 500,000 pounds of supplies a year from going to landfills, which protects soil, water and air quality. The supplies are then redistributed to medically impoverished communities worldwide through SOS’s Global Health Program, and to local social service agencies, animal welfare organizations, and medical education institutions through SOS’s Local Health Program.

SOS has been nationally recognized for best practice and highest ethics and is one of only nine accredited medical surplus recovery organizations in the U.S. For more information call 502-736-6360 or visit: http://www.soshealthandhope.org.
