Jesse Ruth Boleware, 74, of Louisville transitioned on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Visitation 10-12 Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Cable Baptist Church 1875 Farsley Road Louisville, KY. The funeral will follow at 12pm. Burial Monday, April 6, 2026 at Evergreen Cemetery 4623 Preston Hwy Louisville, KY.

Jesse Ruth Boleware, Jessie Ruth Boleware was born on January 5, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the loving union of Mattie Lou Jennings and Clarence Willis Boleware. She was the eldest daughter among their six girls, including Linda Boleware, Diana Richardson, Eula Collins‑Barnett, Lillie McBirth, and Jacqueline Boleware. She carried that role with strength, responsibility, and grace throughout her life.

Jessie was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System and proudly graduated from Central High School, Class of 1972.
From an early age, Jessie’s life was rooted in faith. At seven years old, she joined Cable Missionary Baptist Church, marking the beginning of a lifelong spiritual journey. In 1982, Jessie rededicated her life to Christ, reaffirming her unwavering belief that God is always in control. Through every season—both joyful and challenging—Jessie trusted God completely and lived with the assurance that everything remained in His hands.

Jessie possessed a deep heart for ministry and service. She often spoke of her desire to become a missionary and travel the world spreading encouragement and God’s love.

Though she did not journey abroad, Jessie fulfilled her calling by doing missionary work within her own community, uplifting others with compassion, wisdom, and faith.
Serving the Lord was Jessie’s greatest joy. She faithfully served as President of the Nurses’ Guild, was a dedicated member of the Missionary Board, participated in Royal United Nurses (the organization of all nurses’ guilds), and lifted her voice in praise as a member of the Senior Choir. Professionally, Jessie was a highly respected and exceptional nurse, bringing the same care and devotion to her work as she did to her ministry.

A lover of music, Jessie found comfort and encouragement through songs that reminded her of God’s presence and promises. Music became a spiritual lifeline—one that soothed her soul and strengthened her faith.

Family was at the center of Jessie’s life. She worked tirelessly, making countless sacrifices to provide for and support those she loved. With a generous heart, Jessie often placed others before herself, offering both care and provision without hesitation. Her love was evident in her words, her actions, and her daily choices.

Jessie was a devoted and proud mother to four children: LaManda English, LaMonsherrie Maddox (James), Jamoca English, Brandy Nelson (Antwan, Sr.). She was also the cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Alexandria Hill (Reginald ), Harold Swan, Jessica Swan, Olivia Swan, Joshua Maddox (Mercedes), Caleb Maddox, Antwan Nelson, Jr., Braeden Nelson, Crystal Harris, Christine Harris. Jessie’s legacy continues through her 7 great‑grandchildren: Owen Swan, CJ Edmondson, Raegan Edmondson, Aaron Woods, Rhythm Edmondson, Patricia Maddox, Levon Banks.
Thoughtful and reflective, Jessie valued peace and understanding. While she did not always agree with everyone, she believed firmly that everything we have is given by God and should be used wisely and lovingly. She held fast to the truth that God is the giver of all things and that He always has something greater ahead.

In her spare time, Jessie found joy in gardening and canning fruits and vegetables, turning her passion into a part‑time business. Each handmade, garden‑grown product proudly bore her personal tag line: “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good” — Psalm 34:8.

She also enjoyed crafting, painting, playing card games, making Derby hats, and sharing community with friends. Jessie was an active member of the Red Hatters, Wilderness Road Seniors, Newburg Seniors, and the Eastern Star Women’s Christian Organization.

On March 25, 2026, God called His daughter Jessie Ruth Boleware from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 children,10 grandchildren, 7 great‑grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Jessie’s life leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, strength, service, and love—a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

The youngest of his siblings, Charles grew up in the country where he developed a strong work ethic and a remarkable set of skills that would shape the course of his life. Under the guidance of his Uncle Pep, a talented brick mason, Charles learned the craft of laying brick, concrete, rock, and stone. He was a natural—his artistry, precision, and vision quickly set him apart.

By adulthood, Charles was running his own successful brick masonry contracting business. He often filled the grill with pots of vegetables, corn on the cob, and hearty goulash. In the kitchen, he was just as skilled, crafting mac & cheese and down-home country meals that brought comfort and joy to those he loved.

In his spare time, Charles cherished being with family, riding motorcycles, and working on cars. He was a proud member of the Screaming Eagles Motorcycle Club.

Educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools, David attended James Bond Elementary School, now renamed Dann C. Byck Elementary. He went on to attend Western Junior High School, where he was active and played on the football team. In 1962, David was a proud graduate of Seneca High School.

After high school, David pursued joining the military but was initially declined due to a heart murmur. However, a short time later, "Uncle Sam" drafted him to become a part of the United States Army and enlisted on December 11, 1967. He served his country well and received an honorable discharge, thanking him for his service.

Returning to Louisville, David was gainfully employed by Fawcett Dearing Printing Company, which printed magazines and pocket size booklets. As a child, David's Christian journey began at an early age. It was always important to him to show God's love in everything he did. Whether he was a volunteer delivering commodities for Dare to Care to various sites in Louisville, or financially supporting numerous charitable causes, David did not want to receive any recognition for what he did. He was a giver, philanthropist, and believed "You can't beat God's giving."

He served as a Deacon at Embracing Truth Ministries and a member of the Trustee Board at the College of the Scriptures Church.

David, a man of strong convictions, was also an encourager, supporter, and made time to show up in the lives of his family. He was highly respected by his family, who would listen to him as he shared little nuggets of wisdom and advice. He always had an ear for listening to whatever was spoken to him. One of his greatest joys was being surrounded by his family.

In his spare time, David enjoyed following the U of L Cardinals and the Baltimore Ravens. You could count on David being at the dinner table whenever dirty rice, brown beans and cornbread were served. For fifty plus years, he had the greatest cook in the world, his beloved wife, Joyce Marie Strickland Buckner, who loved to cook and David enjoyed her cooking. It was a match made in Heaven. However, Joyce transitioned from this world on January 23, 2022.

Sadly, and with heavy hearts, David Alexander Buckner, departed this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. He leaves to cherish his memories, his only son, Marcus Strickland (Janice), three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Buckner King, Pearl Gillispie Gray and Mary Buckner; and a host of extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Marie Buckner; parents Willie Roberta and Sterley Buckner; siblings, Eugene Smith, Sterley Buckner, Jr., Leonard Buckner, Richard Buckner, Mattie Buckner Hart, and Georgia Buckner Eugene.

May 16, 1950 - February 21, 2026

David Arthur Brooks, Sr, 75, of Louisville transitioned on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Visitation 10-12 Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Community Missionary Baptist Church 4909 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 12 noon. Burial 12:30pm Monday, March 2, 2026 at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky.

David Arthur Brooks, Sr. was born on May 16, 1950 in Springfield, Tennessee to the union of Margretta Jernigan and Robert Brooks. He was their only child. He was later adopted by John Buntin in 1952, and became a big brother to Stanley, Marjorie, Homer and Lu-Vern.

David accepted Christ at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church. After the family moved to the Newburg neighborhood, he joined Community Missionary Baptist Church. He was very active as a youth in church. You would see him singing in the youth choir, being a youth usher, attending Sunday School on a regular basis, and an active participant in Vacation Bible School.

He was a product of the Jefferson County Public Schools, attending school from the elementary grades to high school, and becoming a graduate from Thomas Jefferson High School. David was very active in school. He participated in the choir, played the trumpet in the band, acted in the Senior Play, and played football, which was his pride and joy. David pursued further education after high school, and attended Morehead State University, for two years, before being drafted into the United States Army.
About six months after completing the Army Boot Camp, David's tour of duty was to Vietnam, during the time the Vietnam War was going on. He spent twelve to eighteen months in Vietnam defending his country. His only moment of peace during this time, was when he received the sports newspaper clippings from the local newspaper.

Upon returning home from the military, David and his father began going fishing every weekend for relaxation. There was a strong competition between him and his father to see who could catch the most fish. The loser of that competition would have to clean the fish. Unfortunately, David would often be the one to clean the fish, in other words, he was the loser quite often.
Shortly after returning from overseas, David married his high school sweetheart, Jackie Gray, and to this union they had one son, David Brooks, Jr.

After David, Jr. graduated from high school, the marriage was dissolved.
David, Sr. was employed at Central State Hospital, where he met his current wife, Bernice. They dated for at least a year before they were joined in Holy Matrimony in June 1992.

David was a very caring, understanding, loving, patient, and kind man, who loved his family more than anything. He would make you think that he didn't care, but out of the blue, he would come to your rescue. He was an awesome father and stepfather. He enjoyed taking long car drives, traveling the roads that took you everywhere.

Indiana University (IU) was David's favorite team, and he was the biggest fan of the basketball team, especially during the Bobby Knight era. According to him, if IU lost a game, it was because IU didn’t want the other team to feel bad and look as though they couldn't play.

Sadly, and with heavy hearts, David Arthur Brooks, Sr., departed on Saturday, February 21, 2026. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Bernice; son, David, Jr. (Krista), eleven step children; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Evie Norfleet, Marjorie Buntin, Lu-Vern Downey; brother, Stanley Buntin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his father, John Buntin; mother, Margretta Buntin; and brother, Homer Buntin, Sr.

Visitation 11-12 Saturday, March 7, 2026 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Memorial Service will follow at 12 noon.

Roy Cornell Spencer was born April 8, 1956 to parents, Anderson Spencer and Catherine Irvin Spencer, in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

He was raised by a strong Christian mother, who instilled faith in him at an early age. Although he was not affiliated with a church in his adult years, the foundation that his mother laid stayed with him in quiet but meaningful ways. He was a proud Kentucky man through and through, who was rooted in faith, family, music and neighborhood life.

Roy never married nor did he have any children of his own, but family was always his heart. If you were a blood relative, bonded and connected by love, or simply part of the neighborhood circle, Roy considered you his people.

For many years, Roy worked as a dedicated sanitation crew member at several well- known nightspots in the Newburg area, including the Elks, Balitores, and JB's Hole in the Wall. During the day, he kept busy mowing lawns, and collecting cans around the neighborhood. He was a familiar and steady presence to everyone who knew the streets he walked.

Roy believed in working hard, staying independent, and minding his own business, unless you were messing with someone he loved. If you messed with someone he loved and cared for, and he happened to find out, you would see the other side of his personality. Ordinarily, he was a gentle giant with a protective streak that ran deep.

Roy will always be remembered for his sarcasm, undeniable charm, and the confidence of a man who truly believed that all the ladies wanted him, and he wasn’t about to let anyone convince him otherwise.
His taste in music was as eclectic as his personality. He could be found jamming to James Brown one moment, vibing to Stevie Wonder the next, and then switching it up with Johnny Cash, without missing a beat. If the music was playing, Roy's feet were tapping. And when he wasn’t lost in a good song, he was laid back watching his beloved cowboys on TV, and enjoying the simple pleasures of a quiet day. Roy Cornell Spencer lived life on his own terms - steady, proud, humorous, and fiercely loyal. He leaves behind memories filled with music, laughter, neighborhood stories, and a reminder to always stand up for the people you love.

Sadly, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Roy Cornell Spencer departed this life on earth. He leaves to cherish his memories his siblings, Beverly "Nessie" Tinsley, Genoria "Dodie" Jefferies, Ricky Spencer, and Melissa Allen; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends, who will forever remember his jokes, his wisdom, and his larger than life presence.
