June 17, 1932 -December 9, 2025

Betty May Harbin Reese, 93, of Louisville transitioned on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at University Hospital.

Visitation 11:00am - 12:30pm Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Reflections to follow from 12:30pm - 1:00pm.

Betty May Harbin Reese was born June 17, 1932, to proud parents Pemmon and Lillian Prather Harbin. She was one of five children (two girls and three boys), with Betty being the third child born to this union. She was raised in what was then called "Parkland" area on Grand Avenue.
At a young age, Betty was baptized on January 18, 1942 at her family church, First Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of Rev. R. J. Miller.

Betty was educated in the Louisville Public School System and graduated from Central High School. She later pursued further education in the Nursing field and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her employment history began at the old General Hospital (now University of Louisville Hospital). Her long span of employment at the University of Louisville Hospital continued until her retirement at 62 years old. Those were very good years spent in her career of Nursing, which was her passion.

Betty's husband, Henry Reese, Sr., was the love of her life. They were married and raised three children, Majorie, Sandra, and Henry, Jr. Unfortunately, her husband was deceased many years before her "Homegoing".

As the saying goes, "No green grass was growing under Betty's feet." After retirement, she began extensive traveling with family and friends. If someone said "go", Betty's bags were packed, and they were sitting by the front door. She continued being active in her church and enjoyed outings with the Seasoned Senior Citizens. She was involved in the church's activities in many areas - she sang in the Senior Choir, was President of the Seasoned Senior Citizens group, worked in the church Culinary Ministry, was a member of the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class, was the overseer of the Feast of Love (a community outreach for the church), and participated in many more activities in the church. She continued being an active church member, and a supporter of activities, until her health began to decline. But not once, did anyone hear Betty complain. Even when she was not feeling her best on any given day, and was asked how did she feel, her continuous response (in a soft voice) would be "I shall not complain", and she definitely did not.

Betty's love for her siblings was the most profound expression of love that there was. Her siblings, Charles, Doris, Roscoe and Curtis (later called the "Clampetts") were a loving close knit family. They were supportive of each other, and if one hurt, they all could feel the hurt. Everyone witnessed the love between them. Now, to explain the "Clampetts". They were given this name because whenever they traveled together (and that was very often), they packed huge lunches, had many sacks of snacks, beverages galore, and they all crammed into one van together, merrily going down the road to their planned destination (just like the old sitcom "The Clampetts). So, that's how they got the name.

With heavy hearts and overwhelming sadness, Betty May Harbin Reese, transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughters, Majorie Reese Davis and Sandra Lynne Mason; and one son, Henry Lee Reese, Jr. (Francine); grandchildren, Michael Mason, Jr., Kamaria Davis, Deon Reese, Jumaane Davis, Rahsaan Davis, Henry Reese, III (Shateasha), Chadwick Mason, and Cherice Bonmon (Chris); twenty two great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and an abundance of friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Pemmon and Lillian Harbin; husband, Henry Reese, Sr.; sister, Doris Harbin Shumake; brothers, Curtis Harbin, Sr., Charles Harbin, Sr., and Roscoe Harbin, Sr.

Momma, Aunt Betty, Granny, Auntie - You will be dearly missed!
You were loved, are loved, and forever will be loved!

Bobby was known and recognized for his hard work and dedication throughout Harrison County. He was blessed to be given the gift of serving others through his years in the military and in his home town.

July 19, 1939 - December 8, 2025

Tommie Lee Montgomery, Sr. age 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 8th, 2025.

Visitation 9-11 Monday, December 15, 2025 at Community Missionary Baptist Church 4909 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 11am. Burial Calvary Cemetery.

Born on July 19th, 1939, in Eastaboga, Alabama, Tommie Lee was the son of Lee Grant Montgomery and Savannah Montgomery. He grew up in Eastaboga and proudly earned his GED in 1963.

On July 5th, 1958, Tommie Lee married the love of his life, Joyce Montgomery, and together they shared sixty-two years of devotion, partnership, and unwavering companionship. He worked as a forklift operator at Ford Motor Company for thirty years, where he was known for his strong work ethic, his dependability, and his dedication to providing for his family. A natural handyman and lifelong family man, Tommie Lee built a legacy rooted in hard work, generosity, and love.

At an early age, Tommie Lee joined Community Missionary Baptist Church, where he began singing in the choir. He had a lifelong love of gospel music and continued singing with joy throughout his life.

After moving to Louisville, Tommie Lee began a concrete business, pouring foundations and driveways that, much like his legacy, will stand the test of time. Working alongside the Posey family, he helped shape many neighborhoods throughout Louisville—particularly in the Newburg community—at a time when seeing Alabama men build a thriving concrete business was truly remarkable.

Outside of his career, Tommie Lee enjoyed gardening, cutting grass, going to bingo, eating ice
cream, cheering on the University of Louisville Cardinals, cooking, and especially
barbecuing—often without revealing what kind of meat he was serving, all while using his secret
barbeque sauce. He cherished time spent with his family and was known for his humor, his
straightforward nature, his understanding and forgiving spirit, his kindness, and the iconic hats
he wore. A pillar of his community, he loved working hard—and he loved the smell of money.

Tommie Lee was a strong figure in his family, always offering shelter, support, and words of wisdom in times of need. He found joy in being with his children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren, bringing people together through food and countless cookouts. His
great-grandchildren adored him for the sweets he always kept around the house. He raised his family with a foundation rooted in faith and ensured their love for the Lord. Building a strong,
close-knit family was his greatest legacy.

Tommie Lee is survived by his children: Tommie Lee (Teaunda) Montgomery, Jr., Clyde Montgomery, Patricia Jackson, Tonya Montgomery, Dr. Delisa (late Rev. James) Brooks, and Oliver (Rolanda) Montgomery; his grandchildren Lillian, Clyde, Shancorice, Erica, Di’Shon, Christopher, Canayec’ya, Neda’Lair, Chelsea, Sherica, Jarica, Neal Jr., Oliver Jr., Nautica, Olivia, Orionna, Rameisha, Deja’Nae, Ondrea, James Jr., Serenity, Jaxon, and Tonda; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Roosevelt Montgomery, Arthur Montgomery, Charles Freeman, Gregory Freeman, Fannie Palmer, Helen Hassell, Sarah Ann Henderson, Catherine Johnson, Janice Freeman, Mary Lois Thomas; three brother
in-laws, one sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Montgomery; his daughter, Prudence Montgomery; his granddaughter, Tonisha Montgomery; and his grandson, Surrender Montgomery.

July 22, 1949 - December 6, 2025

Michael Edward Staples, 76, of Goshen transitioned on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025 from 2:30 - 4:00. Memorial Service will begin at 4:00 at W.T. Shumake and Daughters 3815 Newburg Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218

If you ever spotted a man grinning beside a shiny Mopar, you likely met Michael Edward Staples-better known as Mike, or to those who loved him most, Mr. Mike.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan blessing his parents William Edward and Frances Staples as their only son. At an early age Michael became a confirmed Episcopalian and attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church. After attending Central High School (Detroit), he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam before cruising into Louisville in 1979, where he worked as a mechanical engineer for TARC until retiring in 2004. Cars were his lifelong passion-from tinkering as a teen to drag racing at 17-and his prized 1970 Cuda AAR was the true love of his garage.

When he wasn't working, you could bet he was bowling, building something with his hands, or inventing a clever way to fix something that the rest of us probably would've replaced.

In 2019, Mike found his soulmate, Toni, gaining a beautiful family who adored him as "Mr. Mike." Together they enjoyed car shows, trophies, and a tight-knit community that quickly became family.

Known for his bright smile and friendly spirit, Mike never met a stranger. He loved people-and they loved him right back.

Mike's earthly ride may have crossed the finish line, but his engine will keep revving in the hearts of all who knew him.
Keep the engines running, Mr. Mike.
He will be remembered by Toni, the love of his life; his daughters, Lindsey Stewart (Alejandro) and Lydia Murphy (Reinaldo}; and his sister, Kathy,
Paris (Clarence Dawson). He is also survived by his nephew, Brandon Paris, his grandchildren Johanna, Isaiah, Joshua, Sebastian, and Zachariah, his great-nephews Gabriel, Noah, Lincoln and a host of dear relatives and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Rev. William Paul Baskette was born on February 20, 1936, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Laura Baskette. He was one of her three children. A few years later, the family relocated to Louisville, Kentucky.

Educated in the Jefferson County Public School System, William was a member of the football team and a graduate of Central High School Class of 1955. Shortly thereafter he was employed at a local bank. His work career was interrupted by a request from Uncle Sam inviting him to serve in the United States Army. It was an offer he couldn’t refuse, so he complied and served his country well from 1958 – 1960, received an honorable discharge. Through his benefits from the service, William Paul was able to attend classes at Jefferson Community College, Bellarmine College, and U of L.

Through furthering his education, he secured a job with Reliance Universal. His final employment was with the Community Development Authorities (providing affordable housing for tenants). Rev. Baskette retired in 2005 and recommended his best friend Charles Fields to replace him.

Returning to Louisville, he met a young lady from Frankfort, Kentucky, who instantly became the love of his life, Mary Lucille Bush in 1961, and by July 28, 1962 they were joined in Holy matrimony. From their union two children were born, William Paul Baskette, Jr. and soon after L’Tanya Marie Baskette. The honeymoon lasted, until God called Mary Lucille home on August 17, 2020.

William Paul Baskette, Sr. was a man of God committed to spreading the good news about our Lord and Savior. When moving to the Newburg community, William was ordained at Greater Faith Baptist Church and later united with Community Missionary Baptist Church where his ministry grew by leaps and bounds. He was faithful to God’s word and studied it every day. He knew the word and never tried to beat anyone over the head with his knowledge, but gently shared God’s truth. At Community, he taught the New Member Class to all who gave their life to Christ; was a faithful teacher of the Wednesday night Bible Class, a teacher for the Men’s Sunday School Class, was an associate minister of the church. He was an active member of the Deacon’s Fellowship, which met weekly with city wide Deacons. His life was a living testimony of service, love and devotion.

In his spare time, Rev. Baskette enjoyed reading the bible, the newspaper, and working crossword puzzles. In his younger days, you might find him jogging or running from his home through Seneca Park 2-3 times a week, approximately 10 miles round trip for exercise. In his seasoned years, he became a U of L and Chicago Bears fan. He welcomed phone calls and visits. He loved everyone.

Rev. Baskette was a kindhearted, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a provider and always made time for family. Whether he was giving to the Crusade for Children, or St. Jude Charities, he had a heart for giving to anyone in need.

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, God called his son, William Paul Baskette, Sr., from labor to reward. He leaves to cherish his memory, his two children, William Paul Baskette, Jr, and L’Tanya Baskette; five grandchildren, Ashley Baskette, Tranissa Baskette, Eric Baskette, Donte’ Baskette, and Evelyn Burkhead; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

December 25, 1946 - October 22, 2025

Little Mollie Denny, 78, of Louisville transitioned to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Visitation 5-8 Friday, November 7, 2025 at Lampton Baptist Church 1121 S. Clay Street. Funeral service 9:30am Saturday, November 8, 2025, at her church. Burial Evergreen Cemetery

Little Mollie Denny, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, was born December 25, 1946 to the late Artie C. Lee and Armealie B. Lee. She was one of eleven siblings (Franklin, Queen, Mary, Sheryl, Barbara Jean, Carolyn, Louis, Norman, Emery, Johnny, and Marcus.)

Mollie grew up loving the Lord, and at an early age joined Lampton Baptist Church. Mollie was a Christian woman, who lived her life in the pursuit of Christian excellence, being led by her God in all her endeavors. She spent her life working and being God's servant in her church. She was actively involved in various capacities in the church, such as singing in the Chapel Choir, serving as the president of the Lamptonnites, assisting the Secretary, performing custodial tasks keeping God's house in order, working on the Culinary Committee, serving as an Usher, member of the decorating committee, volunteering at the church clothes closet, and managing the soundboard. Mollie continued to serve the Lord through these ministries until her health began to decline.

During her time living in Georgia, she attended Friendship Baptist Church in College Park, where she continued to worship serve, and grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. No matter where she was, Mollie remained steadfast in her devotion to God and His people.

Little Mollie Lee was united in matrimony to the late Dr. Page L. Patterson, and to this union, they were blessed with five children. Later, she married Michael Denny, with whom they shared thirty years of love and companionship.

Mollie was educated in the Louisville Public School system. She later pursued education and training at Simmons Bible College, University of Louisville, Jefferson Vocational School and Billy Graham Crusade Training. It was at the Billy Graham Crusade Training that Mollie received Counseling training so she could assist souls seeking Christ.

Mollie's professional journey reflected diligence and excellence. She began her career as a manager at Burger Queen, where her leadership abilities, and her strong work ethics, were quickly recognized. She was later employed at South Central Bell Telephone Company (now AT&T), faithfully serving through their many transitions, until she retired in 1998. Mollie's career took her from Louisville to Atlanta, and eventually back home to Kentucky to retire near the community and church she loved. In post-retirement, she was employed at Accent Marketing Services in accounting.

Mollie dedicated her life to the ministry and being of service to others. She was a member of the Ministers and Deacons' Wives Board, a member of the Greater Salem Outreach Jail Ministry, President of the Louisville Ministers' Wives and Widows Council, and faithfully held the office of Treasurer of the Open-Door Ministries. Serving diligently, and being committed to each organization’s purpose, was a mission Mollie aspired to continue until her health no longer allowed her to serve.

In addition to Mollie's ministry work, she was a gifted entrepreneur. She owned and operated a successful catering business, which became one of her greatest passions. From weddings to funerals, family gatherings to church functions, her food brought people together, and her presentation reflected her meticulous attention to detail. She truly poured her heart and soul into everything she did. Attendees at events would often inquire about her preparation of special dishes such as her melt in your mouth Macaroni & Cheese; her baked and fried chicken; her well-seasoned greens; her fish, and especially her particular brand of unforgettable sweet tea.

The Holy Spirit placed within Mollie a deep passion for families, youth, and her desire to see the next generation rise up in faith and truth. Mollie's heart beat for souls that were in the streets, incarcerated, in drug houses, and every place where hope seemed lost. Her mission was simple, but yet powerful, in that everyone would have the opportunity to hear the Word of God, and make the choice to follow Him.

Sadly on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Little Mollie Denny, peacefully departed this life, at her home, surrounded by her devoted husband Michael, holding her hand; and her eldest son Patrick, reading the Word of God, at her bedside. Mollie leaves to cherish her many memories, her husband, Michael Denny; sons, Patrick, Paul and Peter (Tynethea); children, Kanneil, Miquel (Tiffany), Michael, Nyvelle (Roscelyn), Micah, Nadacia, Marcia, De-Nisha, De-Juan, and Tanika; a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Franklin, Barbara Jean, Carolyn, Norman (Wanda), Emery (Deana), Johnny, and Marcus; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and loving friends, who will continue to celebrate her life and legacy.

Mollie's beloved family members who preceded her in death were her parents, Artie C. and Armealie B. Lee; sisters, Queen and Mary Sheryl; brother, Louis; son, Phillip; and daughter, Deborah.

Little Mollie Denny was a true woman of God- gracious, wise, compassionate, and unwavering in faith. Her life was a living testimony of service, love, and devotion. Her presence left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Her beautiful spirit, warm smile, and unwavering faith will remain forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
