Welcome to Wellspring!

Norma White-Caruso joins Wellspring as our first-ever Human Resources Director—an exciting milestone made possible through a grant awarded by the Legacy Foundation of Kentuckiana. A University of Louisville graduate, Norma is SHRM-SCP and CAPM certified and brings more than 20 years of HR management experience across nonprofit, private industry, and government environments. When she’s not at work, Norma manages a lively household with two kids at home (three launched), two dogs, two frogs, and one future cat (pending her husband’s approval), giving her plenty of real-world experience in patience, negotiation, and crisis response.

Please join us in welcoming back to Wellspring, Debra Peffer! She is joining us as our new Chief Financial Officer.

Debra Peffer is returning to Wellspring after a short hiatus, during which she worked for Catholic Charities and completed her MBA in March 2025. Debra originally joined Wellspring in September 2013 as a Staff Accountant, overseeing Medicaid, Medicare, and grant billing, and transitioned into the Controller role four years later. With nearly 20 years of experience in nonprofit accounting and the mental health field, Debra brings both deep expertise and a strong understanding of Wellspring’s mission. Outside of work, she’s a proud mom to five fur babies—Georgia, Savannah, Cookie, Olive, and Vibes.

Learn more about our supported employment program!

Our IPS program operates on the principles of connecting our clients to competitive employment opportunities, systematic and individualized job development, and personalized benefits counseling.

For Zack, one of our IPS participants, this means shadowing a mechanic twice a week to strengthen his automotive skills and prepare for his next goal: attending JCTC’s T-TEN automotive program. Thanks to our partnership with JD Motorsports, Zack is not only gaining hands-on experience in the trade, he’s also building confidence and moving closer to his dream of becoming a mechanic.

Clients, staff, volunteers, and board members came together yesterday for our annual Wellspring Client Holiday Party. Special thanks to Trinity High School for generously providing the space and to Trager Family Foundation for sponsoring the event, including the delicious meal. Additional thanks to everyone who donated gift cards and winter clothing items—clients left with plenty of goodies! From arts and crafts to karaoke and the wheel of gifts, the afternoon was filled with festive fun. ❄️ 🎁

Wellspring’s CEO, Kathy Dobbins, wrapped up her service as the Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund (LAHTF) Board Chair last week. Her leadership assisted their mission to increase local public investment in addressing Louisville’s affordable housing shortage – an effort that has also supported many Wellspring clients over the years.

In October, several Wellspring staff and board members attended the LAHTF annual luncheon with Kathy.
