Heuser Hearing Institute

Heuser Hearing Institute Giving those in our community the experience of sound and language since 1948. We have come a long way from serving three children in a basement in 1948.

In 1948, The Louisville Deaf Oral School began through the joint sponsorship of the Woman’s Club of Louisville and the Kiwanis Club. From our humble beginnings with three children in a basement room at the Woman’s Club, the need for such a place has always been apparent and the school has grown rapidly in both numbers and quality. We were the first school of our kind in Kentucky and continue to be

one of a limited number in the United States. Over the years, the need to provide early intervention, preschool and kindergarten services to children who are deaf and hard of hearing has grown. In fact, in 2001, because of the great need, Louisville Deaf Oral School moved to a new 35,000 square foot campus on Kentucky Street. To continue to serve our children with hearing loss after they graduated, Heuser Hearing Institute was established. Heuser Hearing Institute is committed to cutting edge technology, research and instruction. We provide internships and educational opportunities in ear related medicine, speech-language pathology and audiology. Not only are children served at the Institute, but people with hearing loss of all ages. In 2008, Louisville Deaf Oral School changed its name to Heuser Hearing & Language Academy. Now, Heuser Hearing Institute consists of Heuser Hearing & Language Academy, Heuser Hearing Services Center, and Heuser Research Center. Now, we are available to assist everyone who has hearing loss! Starting June 1, Heuser Hearing Institute will begin renovations at our Old Louisville clinic (117 E. Kentucky Street) to create an upgraded space that better serves our patients and community! We expect these renovations to last for about five months.

During this time, appointments will be scheduled at our other nearby locations. Our team will reach out if your visit is affected.

Our top priority is ensuring that our patients continue to receive the same great care during this temporary relocation. 💚 For more information, leave a comment below, give us a call, or visit the link below:

Did you know that certain routines can make your tinnitus less of a distraction? Start by tracking what seems to worsen your tinnitus: some people notice changes with alcohol, caffeinated beverages, salty or spicy foods, or certain medications.

Many people also find it helpful to mask tinnitus with relaxing or distracting sounds (like music or a fan). Ask your hearing specialist about additional tinnitus management techniques during your next visit!
