Helloooo mid 30s! Thanks for the cold damp bi (arthritis) 2 days of cool temps and lots of moisture got the plants super happy and our joints left out of the party ~

Moxibustion is super effective & efficient at dispelling this cold dampness that likes to settle in our joints, promoting qi & blood circulation and warming us up. I was too lazy to get my needles (it is the weekend after all) but 15 minutes of moxa has us pain free today.

Isn't election season fun? 😧 Anxiety is high for many as we watch arguments + insults being hurdled from both sides; this type of discourse has contributed to record political polarization.

NPR reported today that research is showing how political isolation within our communities leads to poorer physical & mental health -- confirming a long-standing tenet of Traditional Chinese Medicine that emotions are a root cause of disease ☯️

One of my goals this year has been to listen with more compassion, soften my voice (both internal & external) & speak with kindness. These qualities reflect out to the world around us ~ though we may feel opposite to those with differing political ideals, we're all humans seeking a better life 💞

Allowing myself a l o n g e x h a l e as we usher in October and a new seasonal energy 🍂

September ended with competing in the Last Call Triathlon - a goal that was set for fun earlier this year, but resulted in this year’s theme of rising to the challenge with a new found level of confidence and contentment in self. It was never about winning or times, it was about finishing what I’d started.
» » This year’s been hard y’all- mothering 2 littles, keeping a business going, showing up for patients, trying to walk the walk in how I encourage others to.. training for this tri reminded me how giving myself “me time” ultimately made me a better mom, acupuncturist, human 🌻

Autumn is within the Metal element; inspiring structure and stability within our lives. We humans are creatures of habit and thrive in routine ~ hence summer being anxiety-provoking despite the fun. Lean into this seasonal shift by establishing a routine of attention to self; sign up for a regular exercise class, get into a meditation practice, schedule regular acupuncture appointments 😌

So much of life is out of our control ↠ what we can control is how we care for & prepare ourselves for the challenges that we will face

These yummies were buried under layers of soil, compost, dead leaves, wilted tops, fall debris - - just waiting to be unearthed, enjoyed, brought to their full potential. ⁣

The garden is such an amazing teacher :: we have our own treasure, our full potential that lies deep within us; often buried under fears, worries, criticisms, expectations. We are capable of tapping into this source of power, if we allow ourselves the chance, the pause, the breath to do so.⁣

Autumn is quickly coming to a close as we move towards the darkest, slowest time of year 🖤 it feels so good to get some final projects complete to fully sink into the rest of the winter season ☯︎ embracing the structure of Metal before Water takes over and encourages restoration. ⁣

I live in absolute awe of those who have committed / are still giving so much of themselves & their lives for the sake of our country. Though I don’t agree with war, I do not take for granted all of the benefits I live & breathe daily as an American woman.⁣
⁣
I’m hopeful that the way we care for our veterans after they’ve served is improving ~ from the inclusion of complementary medical services in VA plans to exploring different therapies for overcoming PTSD 🍄 ⁣

Pears are a perfect food for Autumn as they support both organs of the season :: Lungs & Large intestine⁣
➺ they dissolve phlegm + nourish yin to combat dryness in the lungs⁣
➺ juicy moisture + fiber assists in keeping bowels moving ⁣
⁣

As with all fruits, pears are best consumed whole for their fiber content; @ room temperature or cooked if you have sensitive digestion.⁣
➺ my fav is sliced on crusty bread with nut butter & cinnamon on top, with a hot cup of coffee on a crisp fall morning 🤗⁣

I ❤️ TCM because it teaches us the deeper meaning of eating seasonally; foods readily available help to appease symptoms that are common at the same time of year. ⁣

🍂 It’s been a dry + dusty fall thus far with lots of sticky congestion & dry coughs. Cough drops/syrup are helpful in the go, but you can help to balance out these symptoms long term by having fluid nourishing foods in your diet. ⁣
➺ adding some fat+protein like nuts or cheese helps to limit your blood glucose spike from the pear⁣
➺ steaming the fruit &/or adding ginger (fresh or ground) makes it easier to digest ⁣
➺ a drizzle of honey further soothes the throat & tonifies spleen qi to reduce further damp/phlegm production⁣
