Last month, Nancy Ochs, DNP, R.N., was named the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing regional dean in ! A native of the Dallas/Fort Worth and Mansfield area, Dr. Ochs returned to the region three years ago and is currently in her 10th year with . She served as an assistant professor at the Abilene campus from 2017 to 2023 before returning to Mansfield.

Dean Holly Wei, Ph.D., R.N., said Ochs brings more than 30 years of nursing and health care experience to her leadership role.

Last month, Molecular Pathology students in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions had research abstracts accepted for presentation at the 2026 SHP Endowed Lecture Series. In-person poster presenters included Edel Fernandez, Katheryne Avila, Julia Carmona, Sergio Marquez, Rachel Conner and Ivett Olivas.

These projects involved the design of PCR primers to amplify single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with heritable diseases, followed by Sanger sequencing to determine patient genotypes.

Congratulations to Sergio and Julia, who were awarded 1st and 2nd place, respectively, for their outstanding poster presentations!

Students in the Master of Science in Molecular Pathology program in the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Health Professions start in the summer and then have a full fall semester. Following an eight-week spring semester, students typically leave Lubbock to experience a seven-week clinical preceptorship rotation.
