β€œdreams do come true!! BSN, RN coming soon!” Jessi, an incoming nursing student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin campus in , is excited to have been accepted to the Accelerated BSN program!

Tracks such as the β€œSecond Degree BSN” and β€œVeteran to BSN” allow students with prior education or training to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the School of Nursing in a shorter amount of time. Both are currently offered in Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Lubbock, Odessa and San Antonio.

In an effort to uncover potential novel therapeutic targets, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism awarded a grant to Dawei Li, Ph.D., from the School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. In this pilot study, Dr. Li’s laboratory will seek to identify new neurobiological (nervous system) factors for potential intervention, including a possible link between endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) and neuroinflammation.

In an effort to uncover therapeutic targets of AUD, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism at the NIH awarded a two-year, $407,468 grant to Dawei Li, Ph.D., from the TTUHSC School of Medicine and GSBS.

Jizyah Injil D. MPH, CHES, program manager for the Kenneth H. Cooper Institute at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, presented a poster titled β€œDesign and Evaluation of the NFL PLAY 60 FitnessGram Project (2019–2025)” at the American Public Health Association 2025 Meeting & Expo.

This presentation highlighted the collaborative efforts between the institute and the NFL Foundation, using NFL PLAY 60 and FitnessGram by GreenLight Fitness to promote physical activity and improve youth fitness nationwide through evidence-based programming and evaluation.

There's growing interest among women to take GLP-1 drugs like for weight loss after giving birth. Kaitlyn Krutsch, Ph.D., with the InfantRisk Center at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo campus, recently spoke with TODAY about whether it’s safe to use Semaglutide while breastfeeding. Dr. Krutsch shared findings from her research showing that the drug was undetectable in breast milk samples, suggesting minimal exposure to infants.

Dr. Krutsch emphasized the importance of monitoring overall health while on the medication. β€œEven if Semaglutide doesn’t pass into milk in measurable amounts, its effects on nutrition and milk supply matter.”
