✨Happy Imbolc ✨

Today we celebrate light returning, new beginnings, and the promise of spring—even if winter still has a little bite. The horses are well cared for, the chickens are laying again, and the days are slowly stretching longer. ☀️

This season is all about preparation, patience, and tending what we love so it can grow strong. Spring is coming… we can feel it 🤍🌾

Out here working horses, hauling buckets, fixing fence, and chasing chickens, my hands take a beating—but these hard gel nails do NOT quit 💅🐴🐔

I love that they’re strong enough for barn chores and still pretty enough to make me smile every time I look down. Huge shoutout to Stephenie at The Pink Swan Salon and Boutique —she absolutely kills it every single time. Durable, beautiful, and zero nonsense… just how I like my nails and my livestock care.

If you’re thinking about fresh nails for Valentine’s Day, book now—her schedule fills up fast, and trust me, you want to get in. Strong nails, pretty nails, and hands that can still get the job done. 💕

Even hardworking hands deserve a little sparkle. ✨

That’s all I have to say about that.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Selling your land because farming is hard makes sense…

Selling your land to be financially secure to buy veggies from corporate stores covered in forever chemicals that are modified to contain less nutrients is the worst trade in history.

Selling out for financial freedom is still putting them in control of your health, your diet, your money, your sufficiency.

Fields & fields of metal & broken ecosystems exist along the interstate between myself & my best friends farms.

Fields & fields void of hope for trades to survive.

It’s colder than cowponies on Christmas morning out here, but we’re meeting it head-on with grace, grit, and a real good pair of coveralls. ❄️🤠

The horses are content with full bellies and repeatedly broken water troughs, and the chickens are strutting around like they don’t even know it’s winter. 🙄Fresh water, shelter, and full feeders make all the difference when the cold settles in.

As for us? We’re layering up, moving slow, and reminding ourselves that this is just part of caring for animals through every season. Cold noses, warm hearts, and a whole lot of gratitude for healthy livestock and simple routines that keep everyone going.

Stay warm out there, friends — this winter storm won’t last forever, but good stockmanship always does. 🐴🐔❄️

Cold fronts, winter weather advisories, and full-blown winter storms can be some of the most stressful parts of keeping livestock. ❄️ 🐴🐓🐶🐈‍⬛ When the weather turns harsh, our biggest priorities stay the same: shelter, water, and free-choice food.

Making sure everyone has access to shelter (whether they choose to use it or not), plenty of forage to keep their internal “furnace” going, and unfrozen water is key to getting through the cold safely.

One tip that’s helped us with horse troughs is keeping them as full as possible—more water takes longer to freeze. We also add 1 cup of livestock-grade molasses per 50 gallons of water. Molasses has a freezing point around -20°, and the livestock grade is simply more budget-friendly than food grade.
If a trough does freeze, be sure to break the ice safely and remove it completely—leaving it in allows it to refreeze even thicker.

Winter weather keeps us on our toes, but with a little extra preparation and a lot of checking in, we can help our animals stay comfortable and healthy through the cold. Stay warm out there, friends. 🤍🐴❄️

We get this question often, so we wanted to share a little note from PM Equine & Homestead.

Our horses mean the world to us, and we do ride and work closely with them here on the homestead. At this time, we aren’t offering riding lessons. That said, we’re fortunate to know some truly wonderful, reputable riding instructors and are always happy to help point you in the right direction if you’re looking to learn or grow in the saddle.

Looking ahead to the coming months, we’d love your input — would you like to see more horse content from us? Training journeys, daily care, ranch life, or behind-the-scenes moments? Let us know what you’d enjoy most.
