For the senior or aging adult in your life, spend time looking through family photo albums. Taking a walk down memory lane is a great way to discuss feelings and draw a connection.

Our team of caregivers enjoy getting to do this with our clients, so many great stories and memories are shared.

While most Americans are making New Year’s resolutions; we encourage you to start with making a habit of seeing your Primary Care Provider – and now is a good time to start – especially before starting major resolutions like new exercise routines and/or dieting.

What better time to schedule a preventive physical examination than now?
In a perfect world, feeling good would be enough and your good health would continue until a problem cropped up. However, many conditions and diseases progress substantially with few, if any, signs or symptoms. Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure are two conditions that can establish themselves without making you feel any different.

So even when you’re feeling fine, it’s still a good idea to book a yearly exam.

January is set aside for National Mental Health Awareness, and we take this time to help individuals better understand mental health. Here are a few tips:

· Begin this year prioritizing mental health as part of overall well-being

· Educate yourself and others about mental health

· Reduce the stigma around mental health

· Recognize mental health is as important as physical health

A few recommendations to help you prioritize mental health this month and all the year through:

· BE AWARE: Monitor your emotional well-being including your moods, energy levels and ability to respond to challenges.

· SEEK HELP: If you experience ongoing feelings of hopelessness, lack of sleep, loss of energy, restlessness, and irritability, don’t be afraid to seek help.

· EXPRESS YOURSELF: Express your feelings by journaling, drawing, or painting.

· CARE FOR YOURSELF: Avoid alcohol and drugs, and revive your mind through exercise, and try to find new things to do to break stress levels and monotony you may feel.

The National Alliance on Mental Health Illness works year ‘round to break the stigma of mental health and we support their work in helping you and your loved ones to have the best year yet, both physically and mentally

Temps are dropping and staying warm is crucial for the elderly, especially during the cold winter months. As people age, their bodies produce less heat, making it harder to maintain a stable body temperature. Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia, a potentially life-threatening condition. Additionally, cold weather can exacerbate existing health conditions, such as arthritis, heart disease, and respiratory problems. Encourage elderly loved ones to dress warmly, stay indoors during extreme cold snaps, and maintain a warm home temperature to ensure their safety and comfort.
