School Psychology at Texas Tech

School psychologists use knowledge of psychology and education to develop and provide school interventions that help children to learn and succeed.

The School Psychology Specialization at Texas Tech prepares students to design and implement evidence-based prevention and intervention practices to address student learning, social-emotional development, behavioral performance, instructional methodology, school practices, classroom management, and other areas salient to school-based services and improving student outcomes among P-12 students including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Today we are celebrating the graduation of two of our incredible TTU School Psychology doctoral students, Jerrod Eby and Christopher Ponce. They are both seasoned practitioners who took the leap to expand their knowledge as researchers and leaders in the field. Congrats, Dr. Eby and Dr. Ponce! We can’t wait to see what your futures hold! ❤️🖤

This week as classes wrapped up for the semester, Dr. Chapman made the trek to Granbury ISD to visit TTU School Psychology Intern Holland Baker and her site supervisor Sally Ellis. Granbury ISD has 2 school psychologists and 1 intern serving 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school. We are thankful for all of our district partners who are facilitating wonderful learning experiences for our students. See you on the road next semester! ❤️🖤

The first year cohort made their last trip to Lubbock for the Fall 2025 semester this weekend! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we can't wait to see them again in January!

Our school psychology interns presented their first capstone case studies today! In March, they will come to campus to present their second case studies in person. We cannot believe they are nearly six months away from graduation! Awesome job, ladies!

This week Dr. Chapman is in Laredo to visit TTU School Psychology Intern Gigi Rodriguez Moreno and her supervisor Dr. Clarissa Kuhns. Gigi works for United ISD, where she was previously a school counselor and a teacher. United ISD has 51 campuses who are served by 5 school psychologists. This is the first time the district has had a school psychology intern, and not only that, but two practicum students who are also TTU students (Veronica Ruiz and Monica Lopez)! It was wonderful to see all of these amazing bilingual future school psychologists in person who are in Laredo serving a district with a 98% Hispanic population. ❤️🖤

You never know who you might see on a site visit during Halloween week! Starla Gonzalez serves Snyder ISD not only as an intern but also as the diagnostician for the district. She also jumps in to provide behavior and academic support whenever needed, being a true superhero for her district! ❤️🖤

TTU Intern site visits this week started off with a road trip to Gorman, TX! Dr. Chapman visited intern Shelly Grissom and her site supervisor Dr. Hailey Frazier at East End Education Co-Op, which serves 5 rural school districts. We love seeing our students out in the field building capacity for student support in our rural West Texas communities! ❤️🖤

It's a synchronous class weekend! School psychology students met online for Dr. Stevens's counseling interventions class yesterday afternoon, and logged in bright and early this morning for Dr. Barbre's consultation class. This semester, they are directly applying course content to their practicum experiences and professional practice!

The next stop for our intern site visits this week was Prosper ISD! Dr. Chapman dropped in to see TTU intern Lillian Meier and her supervisor Dr. Kristine Rodriguez. Prosper ISD has been incredibly supportive of our profession as well as the mental and behavioral support of their students. They now have 31 school psychologists to serve their 31 campuses, which is an incredible ratio! Way to go, Prosper ISD! 🎉
