“Clinical research is still fledgling,” Griswold surmised. “We're not broken at all in educating students in any field, because all of our students outshine all other students when they go to the next level. ..., but my hope is that our leaders will realize that clinical research is probably their number one area of importance ... because of the strength that clinical research brings to an institution such as TTUHSC.”

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), one in eight women overall in the United States will have a diagnosis of breast cancer sometime in her life. Karla Daniele, M.D., breast surgical oncologist at Texas Tech Physicians, urged women to take control of their breast health ... and get screened. “The earlier we find it, the better the treatment options,” she said.

According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women overall in the United States will have a diagnosis of breast cancer sometime in her life. There are currently more than four million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.

Congratulations to Dr. Griswold on his retirement. Here's to many happy years relaxing and enjoying time with his family. You’ve probably heard over the years that the John A. Griswold Level One Trauma Center at UMC is the only one of its kind between Dallas and Albuquerque. He has served as Director of the Burn Unit at UMC, which has grown significantly under his leadership, for 34 years. He has made it his life’s work training other surgeons, nurses and therapists. He is a surgeon who has likely trained most of the surgeons in Lubbock.

Dr. Griswold announces he is retiring to spend more time with his family, he says it will be hard to leave the many relationships he has developed with his colleagues and his patients.
