HealingChoice

HealingChoice HealingChoice™ is a Christian non-profit organization that provides therapeutic care for its clients.

Dr. Marcus Tanner and his wife Michelle founded the organization. The concept of HealingChoice™ was birthed out of their own experiences in life and their deep desire to help hurting people find healing. HealingChoice™ is the umbrella organization for several types of care. If you are an individual, couple, or family seeking licensed professional help for a relationship, marriage or family issues, depression and anxiety, or other challenging life issues, our Family Therapy clinic may be able to serve you. If you are serving in ministry or are the family member of a minister, our professional PastorCare counselors may be able to help. We know that ministry can be very demanding and personal or family issues can be difficult to deal with. Our counselors are licensed and experienced with the unique challenges of ministry work.

When needs aren’t named clearly, they often come out as criticism or conflict. This simple script helps keep communication grounded and connected—especially during emotionally charged moments.

Try this format:

“When ___ happens, I feel ___.
What I need right now is ___.
Would you be willing to ___?”

This approach focuses on your experience instead of accusing or defending. It invites understanding rather than escalation—and makes it easier for both people to stay engaged.

Expressing needs isn’t selfish. It’s a skill—and one that can be learned and practiced.

🌱If communication keeps breaking down or feels unsafe, HealingChoice can help you build tools for healthier, more connected conversations. Reach out through this link www.healingchoice.org to get connected with a clinician who can help.

Many people worry that arguing means something is wrong with their relationship.
But conflict alone isn’t the problem.

What matters most is:
• How you communicate
• How safe you feel expressing needs
• How you repair after disagreements

Arguments can be opportunities for understanding—not signs of failure.

If conflict feels stuck, overwhelming, or hard to recover from, therapy can help.
Contact us through this link www.healingchoice.org to get connected with a clinician that can help support you as individuals and couples in building healthier communication and stronger connection.

🌱 Meet Keegan Peck

Keegan approaches relationship therapy with the understanding that relationships are shaped by many influences—both obvious and subtle. His goal is to slow things down, notice those factors together, and thoughtfully integrate them into the work so challenges can be addressed more fully and effectively.

Under the supervision of Dr. Marcus N. Tanner LMFT-S TX202235, Keegan works with adults and teens and brings a collaborative, inviting style to therapy, creating space for curiosity, insight, and meaningful change. He is currently working toward a Master of Arts in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University.

With a background that includes a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University, a B.A. in Engineering and an M.S. in Leadership from Lubbock Christian University, Keegan brings a unique blend of analytical thinking and relational focus to the therapy room.

Disagreements are a normal part of close relationships. Conflict itself doesn’t damage connection—what happens next does.

Avoidance often looks like shutting down, changing the subject, minimizing feelings, or pretending everything is fine. While it may reduce tension in the moment, it prevents understanding, repair, and trust from forming.

Healthy conflict allows space for:
• Honest expression
• Boundaries to be clarified
• Repair and reconnection

Avoidance keeps issues unresolved and patterns stuck.

Learning how to stay present during hard conversations—without escalating or withdrawing—is a skill. And like any skill, it can be learned with support.

If conflict feels overwhelming or always gets avoided, HealingChoice can help you build tools for calmer, more connected conversations. Reach out through this link www.healingchoice.org to get connected with a clinician who can help.

When conversations feel charged, your nervous system may go into fight-or-flight before your thinking brain can catch up. Pausing isn’t about shutting down—it’s about creating just enough space to respond instead of react.

Try this quick reset in the moment:

Pause: Notice the urge to defend, explain, or withdraw. Don’t act on it yet.
Breathe: Take one slow breath in through your nose and a longer exhale out.
Choose: Ask yourself, “What would help me feel safer or more connected right now?”

This small pause can change the entire direction of a conversation.
Regulation comes before communication.

🌱If communication patterns keep getting stuck—especially during conflict—HealingChoice can help you build tools that support calmer, more connected conversations. Reach out to learn more.

We’re taught that relationships should feel “natural.”
But the truth is—healthy relationships are learned, not stumbled into.

🛠️ Communication is a skill.
🛠️ Boundaries are a skill.
🛠️ Navigating conflict is a skill.

Struggle doesn’t mean incompatibility.
It often means you’re practicing something you were never taught.

✨ Skill-building is not a flaw—it’s a commitment.

If you’re feeling stuck or repeating the same patterns, therapy can help.
Reach out to us through this link www.healingchoice.org to learn how we support individuals and couples in building healthier, more connected relationships.

Meet Dr. Michelle Tanner- She and her husband, Dr. Marcus Tanner, founded HealingChoice in 2005 as a non-profit organization and later expanded to open a family therapy clinic in 2014. She earned both her master’s and doctorate degrees from Texas Tech University and has extensive experience working with individuals and couples from all walks of life. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Michelle Tanner teaches and trains graduate and postgraduate counseling clinicians as they work toward state licensure.

"I support couples by creating a safe, neutral space where both partners feel heard, understood, and respected. Together, we strengthen communication, identify and shift unhelpful patterns, and navigate conflict with greater compassion and clarity.

I teach couples evidence-based, practical tools they can use between sessions to rebuild emotional connection, trust, friendship, and intimacy—so the work continues beyond the therapy room. My goal is to help couples move forward feeling more connected, supported, and empowered, with the skills needed for lasting growth."
