HealingChoice

HealingChoice HealingChoice™ is a Christian non-profit organization that provides therapeutic care for its clients.

Dr. Marcus Tanner and his wife Michelle founded the organization. The concept of HealingChoice™ was birthed out of their own experiences in life and their deep desire to help hurting people find healing. HealingChoice™ is the umbrella organization for several types of care. If you are an individual, couple, or family seeking licensed professional help for a relationship, marriage or family issues, depression and anxiety, or other challenging life issues, our Family Therapy clinic may be able to serve you. If you are serving in ministry or are the family member of a minister, our professional PastorCare counselors may be able to help. We know that ministry can be very demanding and personal or family issues can be difficult to deal with. Our counselors are licensed and experienced with the unique challenges of ministry work.

Many couples wait until something is seriously wrong before checking in with each other.

But healthy relationships are strengthened through small, consistent conversations.

Try this simple check-in tonight with your partner:

• What was the best part of your day?
• What felt stressful today?
• Is there anything you need from me this week?

These small conversations build emotional connection and prevent misunderstandings from growing into bigger conflicts.

Strong relationships are not built through grand gestures.

They are built through small moments of attention and care.

🌱 Try this relationship check-in tonight and let us know how it goes. Small conversations can make a big difference.

Ever notice how some arguments escalate suddenly?

One moment you’re talking…
and the next moment someone shuts down, explodes, or walks away.

Often that moment isn’t about the topic.

It’s about emotional flooding.

Emotional flooding happens when your nervous system becomes overwhelmed during conflict.

Your heart rate rises.
Your brain shifts into protection mode.
Listening becomes almost impossible.

When couples don’t recognize flooding, arguments escalate quickly.

But when couples learn to pause, regulate, and repair, conflict becomes manageable instead of destructive.

Healthy couples don’t avoid conflict.

They learn how to navigate it without overwhelming each other.
And that skill can absolutely be learned.

🌱Save this post as a reminder during difficult conversations. Recognizing emotional flooding is one of the first steps toward healthier conflict.

Most relationships don’t fall apart because of one big moment.

They slowly weaken through small, repeated patterns:
• conversations that turn defensive
• feelings that never get shared
• resentment that quietly grows
• repair attempts that never land

Couples often believe something is wrong with them.

But most of the time, they’re simply stuck in patterns they were never taught how to change.

The encouraging news?

Patterns can be understood.
And what can be understood can be transformed.

Healthy relationships are not about perfection.

They’re about learning new ways to reconnect.
If you’ve noticed the same conflict repeating in your relationship, therapy can help you understand the pattern and learn healthier ways forward.

Chronic stress keeps the nervous system stuck in fight, flight, or freeze — a prolonged state of survival mode where the body and mind feel constantly on edge.

Over time, this can contribute to anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, and difficulty regulating reactions. This isn’t a personal weakness — it’s a nervous system doing its best to protect you.

The good news? Stress cycles can be completed. Taking even a few moments to practice a breathing exercise, grounding technique, or progressive muscle relaxation can signal safety, reduce stress, and help your nervous system begin to reset.

✨ You don’t have to fix everything at once. Small, consistent moments of regulation matter more than perfection.

Jessica Wood, under the supervision of Dr. Marcus N. Tanner LMFT-S TX202235, is accepting new clients! She would love to help equip you with the tools you need to navigate stress and burnout.

Burnout doesn’t mean you’re incapable.

Therapy can help you:
• Understand what’s draining you
• Strengthen boundaries
• Regulate your nervous system
• Create a healthier, more sustainable rhythm

You don’t have to wait until you completely crash to get support.

Burnout doesn’t always show up as a breakdown.
Sometimes it looks like exhaustion that won’t lift, irritability you don’t recognize, or feeling disconnected from things that used to matter.

These are not personal flaws — they’re signals. Your nervous system may be asking for rest, support, or a change in pace. Noticing the signs early can be a powerful first step toward healing.

🌱 Save this post as a check-in for yourself and share it with someone who might need the reminder. If stress or burnout feels overwhelming, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Support is available.

Many people say they’re “burned out”…
But sometimes what they’re actually experiencing is stress.

And the difference matters.

Stress usually feels like too much.
Too many demands. Too much pressure. Too little time.

You may feel overwhelmed, but you can still imagine relief once things slow down.

Burnout, however, feels different.

Instead of overwhelmed, you may feel emotionally drained, numb, or disconnected.
The motivation you once had starts to disappear. Even rest doesn’t seem to restore you.

Stress says: “I need a break.”
Burnout says: “Something about my life needs to change.”

Recognizing the difference is often the first step toward healing.

You don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

If you’re feeling emotionally exhausted or disconnected, therapy can help you understand what’s happening and find a healthier path forward.

📩 Reach out to schedule a consultation or learn more about how we help individuals and couples restore emotional health.

Relationships can bring up confusion, anxiety, and old patterns — even when we deeply care.

If you’re constantly questioning yourself, over-analyzing interactions, or feeling stuck in the same cycles, it doesn’t mean you’re failing at relationships. It means you’re human — and likely carrying experiences that deserve support.

Therapy offers a steady place to slow things down, make sense of patterns, and practice new ways of relating with safety and clarity.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Support is allowed.

🌱If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed in your relationships, you don’t have to do this alone. Contact us to schedule a consultation and explore how therapy can support you.

Pausing a conversation doesn’t mean you don’t care.
It means you care enough to respond thoughtfully instead of reactively.

Boundaries in conflict aren’t about shutting things down — they’re about creating safety, clarity, and space for understanding. You’re allowed to need time to think. You’re allowed to slow things down.

Try this phrase from our clinician Jessica Wood, under the supervision of Dr. Marcus N. Tanner LMFT-S TX202235. Jessica is accepting new clients and would love to work with you!

Save this for your next difficult conversation or share it with someone who needs permission to pause. If navigating conflict feels overwhelming, support can help.

Boundaries don’t push the right people away.
They create clarity, safety, and trust.

In healthy relationships, boundaries aren’t taken as rejection — they’re received as information. They let others know how to love you well, without resentment or burnout.

If setting boundaries feels scary, it may not be because you’re “too much”…
It may be because your nervous system learned that connection required self-abandonment.

Boundaries aren’t walls.
They’re bridges to more honest, sustainable connection.

🌱 If you’re learning how to set boundaries without guilt or fear, therapy can help. Reach out through this link www.healingchoice.org to schedule a consultation or learn more about working with our therapists.
