This morning I volunteered to present to the students at Roscoe Wilson Elementary for their College & Career week and tell them about being a therapist! I’m grateful to have gotten to share about my career and hear from the students their questions and curiosities. ✨

It’s been a very artful day here at MTC!

While I’m not an art therapist, I utilize arts and crafts in my sessions with clients of all ages! Art in therapy can be directive (meaning the therapist gives a prompt of some sort) or non-directive (do whatever the heck you want!). Making art or crafting can help calm and regulate the nervous system, untangle tricky or intense feelings, or just serve as a fun way to spend time together as client and therapist.

Today, I colored a dragon named Albert (activity from the book You’ve Got Dragons), identified and colored in feelings for a color monster (activity from the book The Color Monster), and made a cheeky little beaded octopus for a friend 💚🧡

✨hey there!✨

I’m excited to share some special photos of my new space with y’all! I wanted to capture the essence of my office with these pictures, in hopes that you would feel the warmth and comfort. To me, a therapist’s office should feel cozy and relaxing, a place where you can feel comfortable sharing some of your hardest or most raw experiences.

More to come of the space itself but first I thought I’d show y’all my face 🥰 thanks for following along!

I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Katy McAlpine and I’m the founder and therapist behind Mesquite Tree Counseling! I’m a West Texas gal who wants to share my heart and soul as a mental health professional.

Mesquite Tree Counseling was born out of a desire to create a space where I can help clients feel seen, safe, secure, and soothed. It was born out of a desire to help clients feel they can accept themselves and come to love themselves in an authentic way. My hopes are that my clients can come in my office and feel it’s a place and space made just for them to explore and process their life’s experiences and emotions.

I hope you’ll follow along as I share more!
