William H. Leslie, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at University of Cincinnati Hospital. Bill was born on November 23, 1935. At age seven his family moved to Bromley, Kentucky in a house just three doors from the Bromley Fire Station. His father William Leslie Sr. joined the fire department and became Captain of the Life Squad, Treasurer and President. He has held every rank in the fire department from firefighter to Lieutenant, Drill Master, Assistant Chief and eventually being elected fire chief and serving as chief for 14 years. He responded to a number of major fires and emergencies during his career including the Duro Paper Bag Factory fire which burned an entire city block, the American Airlines plane crash that killed everyone on board, a party boat fire on the Ohio River and several mutual aid fires including the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire.

Laverne Elizabeth Hoppenjans (nee: Koch), 97, of Edgewood, beloved wife of the late Paul C. Hoppenjans Sr., a devoted mother and community member, passed away on October 18, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on June 12, 1928, in Covington, Kentucky, she lived a life rich in faith, family, and music, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Laverne was a retired realtor with West Shell Realty and was known for her dedication and commitment to her clients. Yet, beyond her professional achievements, Laverne's true joy came from her involvement in her parish community. For over fifty years, she sang with the Blessed Sacrament Church Choir, sharing her vocal talents and love for music. Her passion extended beyond the local community, as she had the distinct honor of performing with the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus at Carnegie Hall and singing at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome for Pope John Paul ll with our local Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption Choir. These are just a few of the experiences that showcased her dedication to her art.
