I am a part of numerous witches and Divination groups on social media. Most of the time I quietly observe. However occasionally as misconceptions rise up and gain speed due to blind stereotypical beliefs even within the witches world...I have a responsibility as an elder and a witch of 30+ years to do my best to smash those misconceptions. The one I've seen recently is the belief that one must have their first Tarot deck gifted to them before they can practice the art of Tarot. Not everyone agrees with the idea of needing to have your first deck gifted to you., or any deck at that! If you do feel that way that's awesome for you. If that's how you pass on your teaching's that's Great. However, not everyone has the ability, the means, the mentors or the family to acquire a deck in such a way. Many do not even have such a belief. AND that's ok. I've been practicing for 30+ years. I didn't have anyone close to me to have a deck gifted to me. My road on this path was paved with potholes because I didn't have a mentor. The practicing part of my family was estranged due to my mother being adopted. so no one in my family understood me or my gifts. BUT I stuck to it and its made me an excellent teacher. I do agree there is a number of dabblers, and maybe we could do without those. however... one could make the argument that we Witches have spend hundreds of years doing our best to break stereotypes, to get the truth out there about our ways, our feelings, our beliefs, our teachings. I think it would be extremely arrogant and small minded to balk at those who peak an interest. That's like saying..." we want to be accepted, but we wont accept you!" It doesn't work that way. We Witches are Better than that.
