Today we had the opportunity to visit with Retired Judge Robert A. Chaisson!

Judge Chaisson served for the 29th Judicial District Court from 1997-2011. He then served on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals from 2011 until his retirement in 2023.

When CFS first began in 1998, Judge Chaisson served on the advisory committee. He attended the early meetings providing insight and guidance. Judge Chaisson was responsible for providing funds to CFS to cover some of the initial expenses of the newly incorporated agency. Through the years, he provided monthly support to CFS and in 2011 a generous one-time donation when the agency especially needed it.

CFS is thankful for Judge Chaisson’s unwavering support, and we wish him the very best during his retirement!

Today we had the opportunity to visit with Retired Judge Emile R. St. Pierre.

Judge St. Pierre served for the 29th Judicial District Court from 1996-2019. Judge St. Pierre was instrumental in the establishment of Creative Family Solutions. Back in the late 1990s, there were not many mental health services available, especially in St. Charles Parish. In August 1998, Judge St. Pierre sent a letter to community leaders asking them to consider supporting a local counseling center designed to provide services to at-risk children and families in St. Charles Parish.

Several folks responded and by November 1998, The Center for Family and Youth Services was incorporated. By February 1999, the agency was providing services at its current location at 13101 River Rd in Luling. Some of the original court-based programs included the CHILL program funded locally in St. Charles Parish, Families in Need of Services (FINS) funded by the Louisiana Supreme Court, and the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant (JAIBG) funded by the federal government. Later, Judge St. Pierre was involved with the establishment of the Adult Drug Court Program (formerly housed at CFS) and the Adolescent Substance Abuse program (still offered at CFS).

CFS is thankful for Judge St. Pierre’s passion, wisdom and foresight!

Today we had the opportunity to visit with the Mollere family!

The Molleres own the CFS office building that is located at 13101 River Road in Luling. Known by many long-time St. Charles Parish members as “the old post office,” the building on the corner of River Road and Sugarhouse Lane has been the home of CFS for the past 25 years!

The Molleres have been more than gracious to CFS, including providing whatever we need in regards to the maintenance and upkeep of the office. Following Hurricane Isaac in 2012, the Molleres installed a new metal roof on the building. This proved to be a great investment as CFS did not experience any damage from Hurricane Ida in 2021. CFS was able to provide mental health services to our community immediately after Hurricane Ida, which was an extremely vulnerable time for St. Charles Parish.

The Mollere family has been active in community efforts for several decades. Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the late Archie Mollere was instrumental in the establishment of the Rotary Club’s annual Alligator Festival, which generated the first Rotary scholarships for students graduating from Destrehan High School and Hahnville High School. During the past 40 years, the Rotary Club of St. Charles has provided over $1,000,000 in scholarships. CFS Executive Director currently serves as chairman of the Alligator Festival and president of the St. Charles Rotary Club Scholarship Foundation.

CFS is grateful for the Mollere family!

Today we had the opportunity to visit with members of the St. Charles Women's Club!

The Women’s Club has supported our Character Critters program, which is a character development service for pre-school children. Over the years, CFS counselors have used the Character Critters program at Head Start, recreation camps, and other settings in the community.

Members of the Women’s Club have also been instrumental in providing support services to female inmates at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center. One such effort involved an emotional processing group, which was facilitated by one of the CFS counselors.

The Women’s club motto is “Making a Difference.” They are certainly making a genuine impact in our community.

CFS is appreciative of the Women’s Club and look forward to our continued collaboration to make a difference in the lives of children and adults.

Today we had the opportunity to visit with District Attorney Joel T. Chaisson II.

Mr. Chaisson has been serving as the St. Charles Parish District Attorney since 2012. Under his leadership, the D.A.’s office has a great collaborative relationship with CFS. The pre-trial intervention program is an opportunity for participants to receive needed services such as adolescent substance abuse treatment, anger management, and parenting skills. The goal is to help people to not only stay out of the court system, but more importantly, to live productive and meaningful lives in our community.

We are grateful for Mr. Chaisson and look forward to our continued collaboration to make St. Charles Parish a great place to live and to work.

Today we had the opportunity to visit with Judge M. Lauren Lemmon!

Judge Lemmon has been serving for the 29th Judicial District since 2009 and will be retiring at the end of this year. During her time on the bench, Judge Lemmon has supported CFS in an unwavering manner. She believes that everyone has a desire to be heard, and she has done everything in her power to help people receive the mental health services they need.

During our visit today, Judge Lemmon shared wisdom and guidance to the CFS counselors, including the necessity of self-care and the understanding of how important the work of professional counseling is for our community and our world.

We wish Judge Lemmon the very best on her much deserved retirement!

Today we had the opportunity to visit with leaders from the St. Charles Parish Public Schools!

As a nonprofit counseling center in St. Charles Parish, Creative Family Solutions empowers individuals to make good choices, reclaim self-esteem, trust others and achieve goals in the home and educational and judicial systems.

As our mission statement reflects, CFS intentionally collaborates with our local educational system. This is not a new collaboration, rather one that began during the 1998-1999 school year. Currently, CFS provides support services at the two Head Start centers. We also have strong working relationships with school counselors and other school mental health professionals to address the social and emotional needs of students.
