Pumpkin painting has been a blast with your kiddos this week! 🎃✨

Ways to target language with pumpkin painting:
⭐️ talk about where a pumpkin comes from & it’s attributes (color, size, shape)
⭐️labeling colors
⭐️requesting “more” verbally or through sign
⭐️model correct pronouns (ex: We are painting!)
⭐️narrate the experience! (Ex: I want to use pink! Look, I’m painting my pumpkin pink. The pumpkin is PINK)
⭐️following directions

🎃& remember, PLAY is the way a child learns!

🎗️SPINA BIFIDA AWARENESS MONTH🎗️

October is SB awareness month! Andrew is Mrs. Brooke’s youngest son & he has Spina Bifida!

Here are some Spina Bifida facts:
Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly.
⭐️SB is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States.
⭐️The severity can range from mild to severe, depending on the type (occulta, meningocele, or myelomeningocele).
⭐️Myelomeningocele is the most severe type, where the spinal cord and nerves are exposed. (This is the type Andrew has)
⭐️Children with spina bifida may face challenges with walking, bladder/bowel function, and mobility.
⭐️Many people with spina bifida use braces, walkers, or wheelchairs, but abilities vary greatly.
⭐️There is no cure for spina bifida, but advances in medical care and therapy mean many children grow up to live full, active lives

Rendi is a speech language pathology assistant who has experience with pediatric clients in the areas of language, articulation, and pragmatic/social skills! As well as being an SLPA, Rendi also has previous experience in teaching.
