The Hidden Heart Risk Most Women Don’t Know They Have
At Rejuvenate Health, we don’t wait for disease.
We look for risk early — especially the risks traditional medicine often overlooks.
One of the most important? Lp(a).
What is Lp(a)?
Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a genetically inherited cholesterol particle that significantly increases the risk of:
• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Aortic valve disease
• Premature cardiovascular disease
Here’s what makes it different:
It is not included in a routine cholesterol panel.
And lifestyle changes alone do not meaningfully lower it.
You can eat well.
You can exercise.
You can have a “normal” LDL.
And still be at risk.
Why This Matters Especially for Women
For decades, women have been told their heart risk is low until menopause.
But what actually happens?
Estrogen declines.
Inflammation rises.
Metabolic changes accelerate.
Cardiovascular risk climbs.
If Lp(a) is elevated, that transition can amplify underlying risk.
Research also links elevated Lp(a) to:
• Family history of early heart disease
• Pregnancy complications like preeclampsia
• Increased clotting tendency
• Cardiovascular events in otherwise “healthy” women
Many women only discover this after an event.
We prefer prevention.
Who Should Be Tested?
At Rejuvenate Health, we recommend at least one lifetime Lp(a) test — especially if you:
âś” Have a family history of early heart attack or stroke
✔ Have “normal” labs but strong family risk
âś” Experienced pregnancy complications
âś” Are entering perimenopause or menopause
âś” Want a truly comprehensive cardiovascular assessment
If It’s Elevated — Now What?
Even though Lp(a) itself isn’t easily lowered (yet), we can:
• Aggressively optimize LDL and ApoB
• Reduce inflammation
• Improve insulin sensitivity
• Address hormonal transitions thoughtfully
• Use advanced risk stratification when appropriate
Emerging therapies specifically targeting Lp(a) are currently in late-stage trials — and they are promising.
But until then, knowledge allows strategy.
Heart disease remains the #1 cause of death in women.
At Rejuvenate Health , we don’t practice reactive care.
We practice precision prevention.
If you’ve never had your Lp(a) checked, this is your invitation to go deeper than a basic lipid panel.
Because empowered women make informed decisions — especially about their hearts. 🫀
