Killing mold isn’t the goal. ❌
Both live and dead mold spores can affect your health.
✔️ Viable spores = can grow under the right conditions
✔️ Non-viable spores = can’t grow… but can still cause harm
Here’s where it gets tricky 👇
🔬 Microscopy can detect spores…but can’t tell if they’re alive or dead
🧫 Petri dish (culture) tests can grow viable spores…but not all viable spores will grow in lab conditions
👉 Translation: No single test tells the whole story which is why testing is only one piece of the puzzle.
And more importantly…“dead mold” isn’t harmless.
That’s why the goal is never to kill mold…it’s to remove it.
Want to learn more about nonculturable testing methods like air testing, tape lifts, swabs, and MSQPCR (ERMI) sampling?
