Emergencies can occur at any time. Niobrara Valley Hospital provides emergency care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our Emergency Department is supported by onsite imaging and laboratory services to assist healthcare providers in patient evaluation and treatment. Emergency staff also coordinate transfers when higher levels of care are needed.

Medicare open enrollment starts this Wednesday. Nebraska hospitals are encouraging seniors to review their options carefully and make sure they know what they’re signing up for when they select a plan. During open enrollment, seniors can choose between traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans, which are administered by private health insurers.

In Saturday's Omaha World-Herald, Jeremy Nordquist, President of the Nebraska Hospital Association, says it’s important that Nebraska seniors understand that not all hospitals and clinics accept Medicare Advantage plans. Such plans also can change which providers are in their network.

Seniors enrolled in traditional Medicare, by comparison, can see any provider that accepts Medicare and is accepting new patients. They are not required to obtain a referral to see specialists. Prior authorization is rarely required and only for a limited set of circumstances.

Alyssa is a Boyd County native and a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing (2021) and her master’s degree in nursing (2025).

With extensive experience in direct patient care, Alyssa specializes in family practice, providing comprehensive care for patients of all ages, from infants to adults. You can see Alyssa at our Butte, Spencer, and Lynch clinics, as well as in our 24-hour Emergency Department.
