He is Risen!

Matthew 28: 5-7
"But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.”

Our Director Dr. Jeanne Brooks was a guest on the ON LIFE Podcast, and discussed the topics of Loss, tragedy, and grief that seems to rock the foundations of our lives. It is something that can either rebuild or wreck the faith that we have in the Father. One of the biggest questions Christians seem to get is if there is a heavenly Father, why is there suffering? To understand the Lord, though, we must understand the pain that comes in life. Our Father suffered the most pain any human had to suffer by dying and defeating death. Pain, in that sense, is no longer a life block, but a building block to better meet the Father where we are at. This episode emphasizes that in the mist of suffering, pain, and loss there can be peace no matter the circumstance. Dr. Brooks in addition to our other residents and interns are ready and able to walk aside you or someone you love to help navigate the times of loss, tragedy, and grief. God is not a short order cook.

When living in a fast-paced world full of satisfaction in a matter of minutes, it can be extremely hard to comprehend a God who does things in his time and not just instant which we have become accustomed to. It's almost like we expect God to be a short order cook and answer our pleas in a matter of minutes, rather than a gourmet chief that spends hours, days, and years to give us the best masterpiece. God is the one whose timing is not based on our temporal clock but instead relies on His eternal time clock. God never wants his dish to be half baked or overcooked, so we must rely on his perfect timing. God can take every moment in our lives and use these ways to grow us rather than just to fill an order or rescue us from our discomfort. Can you look back on times of your greatest discomfort, now did you expect God to give you immediate relief or answer? Our God chooses to sit with us in the discomfort, rather than instead of getting rid of the problem. Sometimes Gods answers to our prayers can be yes, no, or not right now. God grows us to learn to rely on Him increasingly instead of holding to things of this world to find comfort. When learn to trust God’s perfect timing we will become less and less anxious about temporal issues, by knowing God is with us and He will carry through it, and we will so be thankful for His timing rather than our own.

But what if after waiting, we are given the answer (or gourmet dish) that we do not particularly like or aren't used to? We must trust that this may be the best answer that God has for us at this time, and instead of “sending it back” to get the answer we want or are comfortable about, we must go out of our comfort zone and understand that it is God’s dish and it will be more fulfilling than any fast food or worldly answer that society can give us.

The Lord God has the power to give and to take away things of this world whether they are prayed for or not. This has special meaning in that are we able to praise God in times of blessings just as much as moments of sufferings.

Our director reflected on this message and stated that it is hardly a challenge to praise God when we are surrounded by blessings, but when it becomes a time of suffering can we still praise Him when we are in the middle of a storm? There are times when it feels as if your life is being ripped away without a warning or when situations have not gone to plan or even have become the opposite of how you may have imagined it. Can we find the blessings of God, despite the times of suffering?

The answer is yes! In the Word of God, He says he will be here for all of us in the midst of suffering, and although we may not always see it, feel it, or even understand it, we know He is always with us. Isaiah 61:3 states that "To provide for those who grieve...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes” (NIV); meaning that he will never leave us or forsake us, the love of God is greater than anything we can imagine despite the troubles we may encounter. There’s beauty and greatness behind every pit of darkness. The ashes that we have will fall away, and will not stay forever, but the greatness and glory of God will shine forever through every broken place and flaw that we or the world may have.

If you or someone you love would like to push back the ashes and reveal the beauty in the life God has given them reach out to info@sittingwellatthewell.com.

Do you ever feel like you are stuck in a cycle of fearfulness, violence, or addiction? Or have you ever felt like the burdens and traumas of those that came before you have affected your life and now you are feeling like you're living their life rather than your own?

It is extremely easy to believe that the life you were born into and the generations that came before you decided who you were going to be and the type of life you would live. But this does not mean that you must continue the cycle of generational trauma and not break the cycle. As Ezekial 18:19-20 s “Yet you ask, ‘Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live. 20 The one who sins is the one who will die (NIV); The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.Although this verse does speak of a son and father, it still holds true from mother and daughter and so on. If you are ready to begin the journey of breaking generational trauma, or if you are looking for healing of your own, one of our qualified clinicians will guide you to better by reaching out to info@sittingwellatthewell.com, and they will help you understand yourself and walk with you through this process.

This week's devotional looks at baking.

Our director knew of a young lady that loves to bake. She especially loves to bake when she is stressed; this stands out to her because she is quite the opposite. Baking stresses her because it feels like it always turns out to be a mess. She finds that she spends a lot of money and time to only end up with all her efforts in the trash. However, this young lady never throws anything out, her messes become new creations. A cake that stuck to the pan becomes cake balls, and macarons that did not turn out so pretty become crust to a fruit tart. Nothing is a waste and all is a new beautiful creation.

Isn’t that just like God? He took the mess made of life at 25 years old and turned it into an incredible tapestry of life that reflects His love, peace, joy, and strength. Genesis 50:20 states “As far as I’m concerned, God turned into good what you meant for evil.” Isn't it amazing knowing there is nothing we can do that God cannot turn to beauty if we will let Him?

He does not throw anything out.
