We’re proud to celebrate five years of partnership with KOVAR; an organization that provides grants to support Virginians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KOVAR’s ongoing generosity has helped expand our programs, enhance accessibility, and strengthen our mission.

This year’s KOVAR grant made an especially exciting addition possible: a new Jeep truck and trailer that will support transportation and equipment needs for our Mark T. Davis Accessible Garden projects. This investment helps us create more inclusive outdoor spaces where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive.

Kevin Parry, KOVAR Board Member, stopped by to present a plaque to Robin Baker (Executive Director) and Jo Matthews (The Arc Board President). Thank you, KOVAR, for five years of commitment, collaboration, and community impact. Here’s to many more!

✨ What a beautiful night celebrating the heart of The Arc! ✨

Our Annual Dinner & Award Celebration was filled with gratitude, joy, and so many moments that reminded us why this community is extraordinary.

From honoring dedicated volunteers and partners to recognizing the everyday heroes who show up for individuals with IDD, every award presented told a story of compassion, commitment, and love in action.

These smiles say it all. 😊
Whether they give their time, their expertise, or their unwavering support, each person we honored plays a meaningful role in strengthening our mission and making sure the people we serve are seen, valued, and supported.

To our award recipients, thank you. Your impact stretches far beyond these walls, and our community is better because of you.

And to everyone who joined us last night, celebrated alongside us, and continues to believe in this work: you are part of the story we get to tell.

Marquita, Stephanie, and Robin represented The Arc of Central Virginia at The Arc’s National Convention in Charlotte!

They spent several days learning from chapters all across the country, hearing from incredible self-advocates, and celebrating 75 years of disability rights and inclusion. The energy in those rooms are powerful and they soaked up every bit of it.

Now they’re coming home with new ideas, practical tools, and fresh inspiration to strengthen our programs and support the amazing individuals we serve every day.

Investing in our team means better services, stronger advocacy, and a more connected community. 💛🧡

Connection changes everything.

When an individual that attends our programs first came to The Arc, his world was quiet and small.

Years on the waitlist left him isolated, anxious, and withdrawn. His mom told us, “I just want to see him smile again.”

It’s with both gratitude and warm wishes that we share that Heather Allen, our Director of Development and Marketing, will be leaving The Arc of Central Virginia on December 31st.

Heather first joined The Arc several years ago in a part-time role but it didn’t take long for us to realize just how much talent, creativity, and passion she brought to our mission. We soon made her position full-time, and the impact she’s had since then has
been extraordinary.

Under Heather’s leadership, The Arc’s name has become a familiar and respected one throughout the Lynchburg community. She has raised critical funds that have supported our programs, expanded opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities,
and brought visibility to our mission through thoughtful marketing and community engagement. From creating signature events like the Arc Aid Music Festival, to growing our Arc After Hours social program and the Send a Kid to Camp campaign, Heather’s enthusiasm and hard work have touched every corner of our organization.

We will deeply miss her energy, her creativity, and her heart for the people we serve but we are excited for her as she begins this next chapter. Please join us in thanking Heather for all she has done for The Arc of Central Virginia and for the community that we love!

Every day, someone in our community waits - waits for care, connection, and the chance to belong.

That is why we are launching The Arc of Central Virginia Scholarship Program in January 2026!!

Here in Lynchburg, approximately 9.6% of Lynchburg residents under the age of 65 live with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). And over 3,000 people are on Virginia’s Medicaid Priority One Waiver Waiting List, which provides access to vital programs like the ones at The Arc.

Our end of year goal is to raise $50,000 to sustain (4) individuals, for an entire year, who are currently waiting for Medicaid Waiver services.
