Be sure and come out to the Memorial Day Walk and 5k run that benefits T1DE whose mission is to support families living with Type 1 diabetes locally and across the state. Bring the family out as we will have face painters and balloon dude Travis that are always a hit. Also all T1D get a discount for signing up for the event. Private message for more info.

Another T1D athlete at the top of his profession! Good luck Alexander! - Update: Sasha lost in the finals of the Australian open last week. He takes insulin on court and he checks his blood sugar via prick during these sometimes 5 hour matches!!!. Tennis is such a dynamic effort with no predictability so this makes managing T1D on court challenging to say the least. Incredible stuff. Sascha Zverev Fans - Future no.1

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has been living with type 1 diabetes since he was three years old. Today he takes on Australian tennis pro Alexei Popyrin in round 16 of the Men's Singles match at the Paris Olympics. Zverev won the gold medal in singles at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021,

Many T1Ds on multiple daily injections use long acting Levemir insulin. For many it is a surprise they plan to discontinue the product after 2024. This will leave many to rework their regiments using other long acting insulins such as Triseba.

Novo Nordisk is set to discontinue Levemir, a key long-acting insulin, by the end of 2024 due to manufacturing priorities and better alternatives, impacting supply and patient access.

Type 1 Diabetes has been a part of my life for over 30 years and my oldest and T1D daughter 15 years. Wife dealing with 20 and and younger daughter dealing with 12... T1D niece and her daughter 8 years. Many friends in the community - it all adds up. Diabetes affects the entire family unit and diabetes can have devastating complications for adults as well as children. However for National Diabetes month let's focus on successes and lessons learned and share our experience with others to support each other and strengthen our T1D community. If you are a T1D family and you know of another family, reach out as you never know how it could change your families life or what you could do for someone else.

UPDATE 2023: Add 8 years to the above!!! So proud of our daughter working hard to be a diabetes nurse educator, sharing her success and challenges with others to help more people improve lives with all shapes and sizes of diabetes.

Dealing with the challenges of diabetes requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. T1DE emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.
