Lila Eanes Maybrey Bearden, age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 31, 2025. She was born on February 25, 1933, in White County, Tennessee, to the late Clifton Edward Maybrey and Joanne Goldston Maybrey.
Lila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clifford Wilson Bearden Jr.; her son, Robert Wilson Bearden; her brothers William Maybrey and C. C. Maybrey; and her sister Margret Maybrey. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Vivian Bearden West, and husband Mark; grandchildren Stephanie Bearden LaPlant (Josh), Daniel West (Erin), and Callie Beeler (Christopher); and great-grandchildren Jacob LaPlant, Logan LaPlant, Abigail LaPlant, Harper West, Hazel West, Jane Beeler, and George Beeler. She is also survived by her sister, Jo Maybrey Mitchell (Eddie), and many nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known as “Miss Lila,” she was a proud graduate of MTSU and spent thirty-one dedicated years teaching in the Moore County School System. After retiring from education, she enjoyed welcoming guests as a hostess at Miss Mary Bobo’s, sharing her warmth and stories of Lynchburg with everyone she met.
Lila was an avid reader, a fan of professional basketball, and a woman whose kindness, humor, and gentle spirit touched all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, who will always treasure her love and the many memories she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, at Jennings Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 3, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Lynchburg Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
