Since 2000, the rate of prevalence of Autism has been steadily increasing. This is partly due to increase in Autism Awareness, better screening and broader diagnostic criteria which have helped more children- especially those in historically underserved communities get diagnosed earlier. Therapist and psychiatrist are two terms that people sometimes mix up. While there is a lot of overlap in these two roles and they work well hand in hand, they are very different. I love this article from Mindful Health Solutions that goes into depth about the differences.

A little bit about my approach- I believe in a holistic approach and will work with you to find a treatment that works with your lifestyle. One thing to know about me is that I am open to differences in opinion. I am not always right. I am willing to change my mind, to tell you when I am considering alternate diagnoses, and to adjust treatment as necessary. I hope that you, too, will keep an open mind about your treatment as well.

~Autistic and experiencing depression and/or anxiety?

~at least 18 years of age?

~currently living in Virginia?

If so, you may be eligible to participate in a research study that compares two telehealth therapy programs.

If eligible, you will receive virtual therapy provided by a Virginia-based therapist.

We all need more local resources and support for adults with ASD.

I received this flier for this "neurospicy" group that the Centra Autism group has developed. Participants ages 18-28. If anyone is interested, please have them email cadsinfo@centrahealth.com with "attention Dr. Bradshaw" in the subject line.

Also, this group has Dan Sullivan and Latoya Horsely doing individual therapy for children and adults on the spectrum.

Speaking of autism, UVA is doing a really cool research study (18 weeks of virtual therapy) for adults on the spectrum, comparing DBT to CBT for adults on the spectrum with anxiety or depression. Intake is paid and some folks will be paid for participating. There are a few other studies listed in the link below.
