“Is it too early to preplan?”
It’s a question we hear often and the honest answer is....no.

Preplanning isn’t about expecting something to happen soon.
It’s about making thoughtful decisions while you’re able, so your loved ones don’t have to guess later.

Many people choose to preplan simply because:

They want their wishes clearly known

They want to ease the emotional burden on their family

They prefer to make decisions calmly, without pressure

Preplanning can be done at any stage of life, and it doesn’t mean everything has to be decided all at once. Sometimes it starts with just a conversation.

At Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, we believe planning ahead is an act of care—for yourself and for the people you love.

If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s “too early,” you’re not alone. And when you’re ready, we’re here to answer questions—no rush, no pressure.

Extraterrestrial Culture Day- February 10 👽

The universe is full of unanswered questions.

From unexplained sightings to stories passed down through generations, some things remain a mystery—and they always will.

At Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, we understand that not everything needs an explanation to be meaningful. What matters most is honoring stories, beliefs, and the curiosity that makes us human.

Today, we celebrate the unknown—the theories, the wonder, and the questions that keep us looking up. 🌌

👽 Fact or fiction… what do you think?

Today, we had the privilege of hand-delivering cards for National Send a Card to a Friend Day, and our hearts are truly full.

Thanks to the kindness of our team, over 400 handwritten cards were filled out by Tharp employees and shared with residents at some of our local nursing and rehabilitation facilities, including Runk & Pratt Liberty Ridge, Runk & Pratt Pearls of Life, The Summit, Tate Springs Health and Rehab, and Seven Hills Health and Rehab.

What started as a simple card quickly turned into smiles, conversations, laughter, and meaningful moments. Some residents asked us to open their cards and read them aloud, while others asked for them to be placed on their stand so they could keep the message within their sight. Those moments especially touched us and reminded us just how much a small act of kindness can mean.

Giving back to our community is something we hold close, and we hope to visit even more facilities in the future. Sometimes the smallest gestures carry the greatest impact.

Serving families close to home matters.

Our Madison Heights location is more than just a place we serve from...it’s a community we’re actively part of.

One of our directors, Missy Hardenburg, proudly serves as Vice President of the Amherst County Chamber of Commerce, working alongside other local leaders to support the families and businesses that make this area home.

To us, funeral service isn’t separate from community involvement — it’s an extension of it. Being present, invested, and connected matters, especially in moments when families need familiarity and trust. Because when you’re caring for families during life’s hardest moments, being part of the community you serve isn’t optional, it’s essential.
