November is Youth Hope Month, dedicated to addressing youth homelessness through outreach, prevention, and education. Each year, nearly 4.2 million young people experience some form of homelessness, which is unacceptable. The Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth, in partnership with United We Stand, is working to shed light on the struggles of runaway and homeless youth. You can make a difference by supporting our efforts. United We Stand and the Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth are hosting a Cocoa and Coats event on Thursday, November 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at United We Stand, 2 Broad St., Lyons. We will be collecting coats, winter gear, and food for local food pantries. Donors can enjoy a delicious cocoa bar as a thank-you for their generosity. We are also asking everyone to wear green on Thursday, November 13th, in honor of Youth Hope Month.

Thanks to generous support from the community, Foodlink has added extra food distributions and made available more than $1.5 million in additional food to its network — with more to come. Thank you to New York State, and all of our community partners, including Wegmans, Rochester Area Community Foundation, The William & Sheila Konar Foundation, and United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes — and so many individual donors who have stepped up during this critical time.

SNAP benefits for November 2025 may be delayed.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, which oversees the New York State SNAP program, should provide updates to SNAP households by this Saturday, November 1, 2025 on the status of November SNAP benefits.

Updates will be provided through the OTDA website (https://otda.ny.gov/snap-benefits-shutdown.asp), NYC ACCESS HRA (https://a069-access.nyc.gov/accesshra/), myBenefits (https://mybenefits.ny.gov/mybenefits/begin), the ebtEDGE app, and through text message.

You can also visit OTDA’s website for more information and frequently asked questions questions about November’s SNAP benefits here: https://otda.ny.gov/snap-benefits-shutdown-faq.asp -q1

The situation could change quickly. There is currently a lawsuit pending regarding payment of November 2025 SNAP benefits during the shutdown of the federal government. In addition, New York State has allocated additional resources for emergency food assistance.

Check back with OTDA’s website or LawNY’s social media pages for additional information regarding November SNAP benefits.

In the meantime, if you or someone you know is struggling with food insecurity, visit here to find a map of local food pantries by zip code:

Additional resources are being made available through Regional Food Banks in New York State. To find your regional food bank, visit here: https://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/nutrition/hpnap/regional_foodbank_map.htm
