If you’ve been wondering what mammography looks like at Rice Community Hospital, this conversation is worth a listen.

A few weeks ago, our Lead Mammography Technologist Chelsey sat down with Ad Astra Radio on the Rice Community Corner to answer real questions about mammograms, comfort, safety, and access, and to talk through what it means to have this service available right here in Rice County.

If this sparks questions or reminds you it’s time to schedule, give us a call at (620) 257-7176.

We’re proud to share that Rice Community Hospital's Family Birth Center has been recognized as a Silver Level Winner in the Kansas Newborn Screening Annual Facility Awards!

Newborn screening is one of the first ways we help protect our tiniest patients. It is quick, important, and it helps catch certain health concerns early, when timing matters most.

As our Chief Nursing Officer, Aubrey Nuss, shared:
“This award is public acknowledgement of the amazing care and dedication I see every day from our nursing staff.”

We’re grateful for the team behind the scenes making sure every baby gets a strong start, and we’re grateful for the families across Rice County who trust us with their care.

We’re proud of our CEO, George Stover, for representing Rice Community Health in Washington recently. As former Board President of the Kansas Hospital Association, he joined KHA leaders to meet with policymakers and talk about the Rural Health Transformation Program and how it helps rural hospitals stay strong, keep care close to home, and continue serving Kansas families.

January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, and we wanted to share a reminder from Dr. Logan Shetlar with Lyons Family Care.

Cervical cancer is one of the more preventable cancers because we can often catch changes early, before they become cancer. The hard part is that early changes usually don’t cause symptoms, which is why screening matters.

If it’s been a while, that’s okay. You don’t need a lecture. You just need a plan, and we’re happy to help.

With extreme cold expected across Rice County, we want to share a few safety reminders to help keep you and your family safe.

Limit time outdoors, cover exposed skin, and watch for signs of frostbite or hypothermia, especially in children, older adults, and anyone working outside.

If symptoms become severe or you’re concerned about your health, Rice Community Hospital is open 24/7 and here for you. In an emergency, call 911.

During CRNA Week, we are recognizing two long-time members of our team, Chris Culp, CRNA and Brian Moore, CRNA.

Chris has served patients in Rice County since 2002, and Brian since 2003. That level of consistency and commitment is rare, and it matters in rural health care.

In 2025, they provided anesthesia for 292 surgeries. That is 292 patients and families who got to feel safe in the OR, without having to drive to Wichita or Hutch.

They also support our Labor & Delivery patients and step in wherever they’re needed across the hospital.

We’re lucky to have you both in our corner. Thank you, Chris and Brian!

We are proud to share an important milestone for Rice Community Hospital. A few months ago, we brought mammography services in-house. We have now officially earned American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation for mammography.

This accreditation reflects a detailed review of our program, including image quality, equipment performance, safety measures, and staff training. It is one of the ways patients can feel confident they are receiving care that meets nationally recognized standards, right here in Lyons.

This achievement is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our Radiology team. Thank you for the extra hours, attention to detail, and commitment it took to bring mammography in-house and meet ACR standards!

If you are due for a mammogram, call (620) 257-7176 to schedule.
